Im not sure if i have MTHFR, will it hurt to take baby asprin and folgard anyway?

Im 24 and just had my second miscarriage with no previous children, and doctors wont do testing till ive had 3 or more. Personally i think that is just ridiculous and have taken it upon myself not to have a 3rd one, I know that a lot of recurrent miscarriages are caused by MTHFR. Will it hurt if i go ahead and take baby aspirin and fol-guard just in-case, i know that this can be a treatment?  Just wanted some opinions other then my doctors, thanks!!!

If anyone has any questions about MTHFR, treatments or possible treatments, you might be interested in seeing the newly created MTHFR group forum.

I have posted a lot of references and also there are a number of ladies here with the same past and losses.

I hope you will take a look at the group, and post your questions or concerns there.  I can tell you first hand, having MTHFR is initially stressful but when you find a physician who will help you and get you the right medications, you will find that pregnancy can be achieved.  Many of us are living proof.  For example, taking at least 5mg of folic acid is key.  Taking a complex B6 and B12 vitamin certainly helps since these three areas are deficient because of the MTHFR.  Also taking a low dose 81mg or baby asprin while not necessary for everyone will not hurt and infact can help you tremendously if you are affected by MTHFR.  Some medical practitioners even prescribe Lovenox injections pre-pregnancy and for women like me throughout your entire pregnancy to assist with any clotting problems.

Please visit us here to see the resources and chat with others who are going through the same thing:  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/MTHFR-Methylenetetrahydrofolate-reductase/show/961

Hope to see you there!

In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.

Sincerely,
Sandi (Dragon1973)

hey so i got the results of my miscarriage. It was a partial molar pregnancy when two sperm fertilize one egg, so they baby do sent develop properly and abnormal cells start growing on the placenta, my body keeps producing pregnancy hormones to sustain the pregnancy and around 12 weeks is when the body usually figures out that the baby isn't growing properly. And that is exactly when i started bleeding. Doc said that it is just a freak of nature as is twins or triplets. I commented in my journal if you want to have a look, and all the tests that my pcp did came back normal, they tested my thyroid, my red and white blood cell count and all this other stuff. but because it was a partial molar pregnancy i have to go on birth control for 6 months as their is a possibility that if my numbers dont go back to zero there may be abnormal cells left from the pregnancy and they could turn into cancer yikes. but my numbers are going down as they should be so im ok.

Not a problem.  We have no clue where my MTHFR came from either.  My great grandmother only had one miscarriage and my aunt had a stillborn.  So, that's the only two people that have had anything like this in my family and it's on my father's side, but none of them reoccurant.

I'm glad that you have such a great relationship with your doctor.  I have to do the whole b6 b12 folic and baby aspirin but for my body it just isn't enough.  We will get our babies one day that's what we keep telling ourselves!  As the Chirstmas saying goes...Just Believe!

Anytime let me know if you want to talk and also let me know what the results say.

so i went to my pcp she is so great i love her...anyways she took my blood and is going to check for everything she said, thyroid, blood clotting things, vitamin deficiency and a whole bunch of other things. She checked my leg and said it may be nothing but then it may be something big so thats why shes going through my blood. No one on my mums side has mthfr but i don't know my biological fathers side so my pcp said that maybe someone on his side has had recurrent miscarriage problems. anyways she put me on baby asprin and i go back in two weeks to get the results. Thanks for your help shasy03! im glad i have people to talk to about all this stuff and people who understand what im going through!

folgard is just folic acid and extra b vitamins. But i don't really have any signs of the mthfr except that my left leg always feels like there's something stuck in it, at the back of my thigh. I also have twitching in my leg and if i sit down for more then 5 minutes it starts feeling weird and numb??? do you know what that could be? im going to my pcp tomorrow to check on it!

It will NOT hurt to take a baby aspirin.  They have me taking the baby aspirin all the time pregnant or not.  What are your signs of MTHFR?  I don't know about the folgard...I have no clue what that's for or what effects it has.  However, I know baby aspirin is fine.
