Just had a D&E miscarriage and want to conceive again

Hi, I just had a D&E on Friday (9/12/08) due to a miscarriage. I was supposed to be 10 weeks pregnant but the baby and pregnancy stopped developing at 6 1/2 weeks. I am reading confliciting information relating to when we can have sex and when we can try again to get pregnant.
We just got married on July 11th and must have conceived on our honeymoon because we waited for marriage to have sex. So I am assuming we are both pretty fertile. I feel this overwhelming need to be pregnant again. Both because we want a baby and also because of this void that I feel now that I am no longer pregnant. When can we try? We don't use birth control, so once we assume having sex, the possibility is there right? Is it possible to get pregnant before you get your period that follows the D&E? Is it safe for the pregnancy to get pregant right away?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and answer my questions. :)
Jessica

I am so sorry for your loss, I too have been through this and I know how difficult a time this is.

You hear so many different answers as to when to try again. Some say 1 month, others say 3...it really depends on your Dr.  Mine always said 1 normal cycle.  The important thing is to wait until you are ready emotionally. Its a very personal decision.  I keep trying, and did so right away because I felt it was the best thing to help me through. Others choose to wait, for the same reason.  Whatever you decide, I wish you well and don't give up!!  Unfortunately first trimester m/c is common, but its not all that common to have it happen multiple times.  Good luck to you!!

It sounds like we have pretty similar situations.  I had a miscarriage, and we opted to do the D&C on August 6.  I should have been 10 weeks, but the baby stopped developing at 6 weeks.  Due to some other issues, we had already had a bit of a rocky pregnancy.  After the D&C, my hormones went crazy.  I don't think I was prepared for the emotional toll that the hormones would take.  After two weeks, I finally felt normal again.  It has now been 6 weeks, and I just got AF this week.  We too are anxious to try again, and I think we will start trying this month.  After everything that has happened, I realize even more how little say I have in things anyway.  I figure that when it is time, God will bless us with a baby.  Until then, I am just trying to let my body get completely healed so that we can have a healthy pregnancy.  Good luck to you.

Hi Jessica

I'm sorry for your loss, my husband and I went through the same thing about 4 weeks ago. I know exactly how you are feeling and also want to start trying again ASAP.

I have heard many things on how soon you should start again. My Dr said to wait 2 cyles and other say you can start trying again after your first cycle. I got my first period on friday as scheduled and I think I'm going to start trying again this month.

I hope everything works out for you and hang in there it will get better each day.
