I was told to wait 2 weeks before bathing or intercourse.  I've not heard of anyone being told to wait 4 - 6 weeks.  I know that unprotected intercourse they usually advise to wait until after you've had your first period so perhaps that's what they meant??

Weird. My doc gave me the clear for swimming and sex after just one week! I would think your cervix was closed by now. I have resumed normal actives by 3 weeks after giving birth.

I think you will be risking an infection esp in ocean water.  I would say it's better to be safe than sorry in this case.
