"Why me" is the plaintive cry of a woman going through a Miscarriage. Not every ovulation results in pregnancy, and not every pregnancy results in childbirth. Miscarriage is the frustrating aftermath of ovulation having misfired. It is for women to rebuild and restart if they are really serious about conceiving, as Ovulation after Miscarriage is a possibility. This is based on the premise that she is not infertile due to presence of HPV or human papilloma virus.

In a healthy woman with a normal menstrual cycle, ovulation is inevitable. If a Miscarriage was spontaneous, without any prolonged or complicated bleeding, it will not have any bearing on ovulation. The reason for delayed ovulation could be that during pregnancy the body is producing HCG, a hormone of the pituitary gland that suppresses production of other hormones to stimulate ovulation. With use of basal body temperature or cervical mucus monitoring to find out the most fertile period, you can return to a normal cycle of ovulation.

It is important to check with infertility experts to determine the cause of Miscarriage before losing hope or getting pregnant again. Miscarriages due to natural factors are sidelined, unless there are three in a row. Some women prefer an early next pregnancy, but this can be a physically and emotionally draining experience. Ovulation occurs within 2 weeks after a Miscarriage. Keep this in mind, as a Miscarriage dislocates the hormonal system. The body is gearing up to carry a baby and then, whoom! there is no need to continue doing so, as not enough progesterone hormone is being produced to line the uterus and nourish a fertilized egg. The cause was a sudden shift in hormones and its effect on normal or regular ovulation and menstrual cycles.

Nearly one in 200 women goes through a Miscarriage, and it is more common in women above age 35 or with more than one fetus. Certain health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, rubella or German measles, herpes simplex or under-active thyroid gland increase the risk of Miscarriage. Some women experience a faster return to normal cycles, while others have to wait, and it is this waiting period that requires patience and taking precautions.

How Long After A Miscarriage Should I Wait Before Trying To Get Pregnant Again?
Your Body after a Miscarriage
A woman is ready for childbearing again after a miscarriage once the normal cycle returns. However, it is hard to predict when the next menstrual period will return after a miscarriage. Following uncomplicated miscarriage, most women who had regular cycles will have a period within four to six weeks following the completion of the miscarriage.

During pregnancy, your body produces a hormone called hCG, which suppress the pituitary gland’s production of other hormones that normally stimulate ovulation. The hCG level drops after the pregnancy tissue is removed during miscarriage. It must drop to zero before your cycles resume. Although the length of time it takes for this to occur depends predominantly on the value of hCG present before the miscarriage, hCG suppression of the pituitary gland usually subsides within two weeks.

If you had a spontaneous miscarriage without any prolonged bleeding, you will ovulate within two to four weeks after the miscarriage. Most miscarriages are complete, and if you did not have any infection symptoms (fever, discharge, excessive bleeding) after your pregnancy loss, it should not affect your attempts at becoming pregnant at all.

The return of your normal cycles, and hence your chances of pregnancy, depend a lot on how far along you were when the miscarriage took place. In addition, you might want to keep track of any instrumentation, such as curettage, that you might have been exposed to or if there were any retained products after the miscarriage. Rarely, a small amount of placental tissue is left behind at the time of miscarriage. In this case, a woman may experience persistent bleeding along with a delay in the fall of hCG levels and the return to normal cycles.

What can you do?
Most doctors recommend that you take your basal body temperature or do cervical mucus monitoring to find out your most fertile period of ovulation. If your periods have been fairly regular, you have been having regular unprotected intercourse and are not yet pregnant, then you must consult your doctor since in most cases, about 80 percent, couples having regular intercourse without birth control should conceive within a year.

You can seek help from an infertility specialist right away if you are contemplating getting pregnant. They can start you on a plan of observing cervical mucus, taking basal body temperatures and inducing ovulation if you are not ovulating on your own.

If you have had miscarriages before, it is important that you and your infertility expert try to determine the cause before you attempt to get pregnant again. Many women are discouraged after a miscarriage and rush to try again, without taking the necessary steps to avoid another miscarriage. Don’t try this in a hurry and suffer another pregnancy loss

I'll look into it tomorrow.  I have class tonight, so won't be home till after 9:00.

Krazy - what were your cycles like before m/c?  28 Days?  m/c can wreck havoc on AF.  I too thought I might have gotten pg right after my m/c as we bd unprotected once, but I wasn't.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too had a natural M/C on Sept 14. I was 5 1/2 weeks along. I did get pg. I was told by my obgyn to wait 3 cycles but I chose not too. I have also gottne conflicting info about when we beigin ovulatiing etc. I ttc everyday of the month especially after M/C. Our cycles can get all banged up so it's hard to gage when exactly we conceive. I guess either you shold take a hpt of get your blood drawn. Best wishes to you adn good luck. Let me know how it all works out!

It is certainly possible, since there is a old wives tale, that you are more fertile after a m/c.  It hasn't been proven, but the myth does exist.
