Bleeding after a loss

Hello ladies and 1st I want to say thanks for the warm welcome and words of wisdom I was provided on my last post….here is my background I had an eptopic back in June which I was treated with methrotrexide…then this last week I suffered a miscarriage at 4 weeks. It happened Monday night/Tuesday morning. My question is this when it first happened I was bleeding but not a lot less then my normal period, now today 3 days into it I am bleeding heavy is this typical in a miscarriage?  And if so how long do you typically bleed? I have been lucky I had a few cramps and some clots but not doubled over in pain. Is this normally how it goes?  The doctor in the ER was not much help with answering questions besides handing me some pamphlets

I had two m/c at 4 weeks. Both times I just had a heavy period. THe first day or so I had spotting and light blood then then it got much heavier. With the first one I just bleed pretty heavy and with the 2nd one I passed a lot of blood clots and some of them were huge!!! I thought something was wrong but I was okay. I think every situation is different. I did not have intense pain with either one. I cramped and was misreable but I wasn't ever double over in pain. So unless you're bleeding through your protection every hour I wouldn't worry about it. I had my first AF 30 days after my m/c began so my body stayed close to the normal cycle.

With the first m/c I had a normal period the next month. With the 2nd one my period was only one day. So again I think every one is different.

Good Luck Dear!! I hope you feel better soon

I had a m/c early like you, at 5 weeks.  The Dr. told me it would be like a period, maybe a little heavier and crampier, but maybe not.  At that point the body doesn't have to work very hard to expel anything because there's not really much in the uterus.  I bled for a week and got my first af 5 weeks to the day after my m/c started.  It can be a little heavier because the uterine is thickened in response to the pregnancy hormones so there is a litle more to shed.  I hope you feel better soon!

First of all I'm sorry for your losses. I was 9w3d when I started bleeding and cramping. I went to the ER where later that day they did an exam and the baby came out along with the placenta and cord. I think that helped me not to bleed for so long. My bleeding stopped after 6 days. I, like bam, consider myself fortunate to have not had it go on for long. You'll be in my thoughts. *hugs*

I'm sorry, I know how hard that is to have to switch the topic of the appointment.  Well that's good you are back to 4.  That hopefully means you will get AF in about 4 weeks.  Hang in there and post anytime if you need to vent.  This is one place where we all understand the roller coaster of emotions.

Well I had my HCG test repeated on Monday and I was to get the results on Wednesday, but in the mean time I had begun to bleed and ended up in the ER, they did a vaginal ultrasound and they said that I was miscarrying there was no sign of pregnancy left, they did an HCG test before I left and it was like 4 so they were sure it would reach 0 in no time….my initial HCG at the ER on 12/31/2008 was 200, and the only reason I ended up there then was I had such bad cramping and spotting and that’s when they told me I was pregnant but very early. 13 days later it was all over for me….i am sad but I hide it well. I have to make my follow appointment…my family doctor is real old school he don’t see woman who are pregnant he refers you to an OBGYN….so I made an appointment for next week for my first prenatal I have to call them back and change it to a post miscarriage appointment 

Every woman's body handles a m/c differently, but I can share my experience with you as it sounds similar to yours.

I had a natural m/c at 8 weeks.  I was spotting brown for a few days and cramping.  It started on a Tues/Wed.  By Fri I was bleeding red, similar to a period, but heavier.  I did have cramping, but it was bearable and I didn't need to take any asprin or anything.  Of course I was trying to keep my self busy that weekend so I spent it alternating between laying on the couch and cleaning our carpets.  On Mon is when I passed our precious little bean and then bled on through wed.  After that it was done and I promptly go AF four weeks after the start of the red blood on Friday.

But I was one of the fortunate ones who had a relativley physically easy m/c.  Like I said every woman is different.  The one thing my dr did tell me is that if you start bleeding through more than one pad an hour, that's not normal and you should call them.  Also, are they going to check your HCG levels to make sure they go back to 0?

I am so sorry for your loss.  I had a D&C, but from what my dr said bleeding can be off and on and typically lasts about 7-10 days.  I know this must be devastating, and we are glad to have you but sorry you had to join us.  Please post with us anytime.
