Normal Pregnancy, Miscarriage, or Ectopic...?

This is my first post here and I'm not sure if I'm in the right spot.  Anyway, here's what's going on....

4/29 - Faint positive HPT
4/30 - Darker positive
5/2 - Started pink spotting (assumed implantation bleeding)
5/4 - Bright red bleeding, called nurse to say I think it is a miscarriage, but then bleeding stopped (only needed a panty liner)
5/5 - Ultrasound showed thickened uterine lining consistent with early pregnancy - HCG = 81
5/7 - HCG = 127 (only a 57% increase), more bright red blood (slightly more than before, but still a panty liner or small pad was enough) - HCG number make the doctor concerned about possible ectopic
5/11 - HCG = 649

So the HCG didn't double over the 48 hours between the first two tests, but it more than doubled every 48 hours between the second two tests (which were exactly 4 days apart).

Any ideas what this means....??

I know exactly how you feel.  I had two very healthy pregnancies, I have a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl.  It took us 6 months to fall pregnant with them and with our son that I miscarried we decided to try and I was pregnant straight away.  With my miscarriage I saw his heartbeat at 7 weeks 4 days, during the first trimester I was throwing up 3 times a day and was nautious all day.  My doctor said that the chance of miscarrying at our 13 weeks check up was 5% because I had two healthy pregnancies, my age and seeing a heartbeat.  Well 5 days later he was gone.

It's  funny to say this but I always thought there was something wrong.  I know my body well and I wasn't feeling any butterfies around the 11 week mark.  I found around that time I would lie on the couch and start hyperventilating like I couldn't breathe.  That happened twice and then didn't happen again.  I truly believe it was my body telling me something was wrong and I think that's why my son stopped growing at about that time.

My miscarriage happened fast, On the Monday I had pink discharge no obvious pains just  a sore backk which was normal, Tuesday went to hospital at 5pm with very light bleeding, 6pm I was gushing changing 6 pads between 6 and 7.  I still didn't have much pain.  At 9pm my waters broke and my son came out along with his placenta.  I remember saying he's in my pants and I took my pants off and the placenta fell on the ground, I thought that was my son so I pulled my pants up and he was still in my pants.  The nurse had to take him from that point.  After we recovered we got to see him and he was perfect.  We picked him up yesterday and buried him so that is nice for us.

I am realy hoping  the best for you.  It didn't work out for us this time but don't give up hope.  I think once you give up hope then it's already gone!!!  My sister bled when she was 10 weeks enough to wear a pad and she had a healthy baby.  Stay positive and keep thinking the best.  I was blessed enough to carry my son those extra few weeks and that is what I cherish now.

I go back tomorrow for another ultrasound and blood draw.  I know there's still a chance they won't see a sac on the ultrasound tomorrow, but I would feel a lot better if they did.  This has been a terrible roller-coaster ride, especially after everything went perfectly with my pregnancy for my son who is 10.5 months old.

I definately agree with jrobertson20.  Try not to let it get you down and try and think positive!!!!!!  I know it is scary bleeding during early pregnancy but it is very normal.  Just wait for the tests before you drive yourself crazy thinking about the worst.  I know it is easier said than done but try and stay strong!!!!

Were the first two tests around the same time?  Maybe you had more to drink before the second test and it diluted your blood.  Maybe also it just took a little time for the baby to implant and start secreting the HCG.  Your numbers went up good.  Are they going to do anymore blood work or an ultrasound once you get over 2000?  I would say don't worry about it for now and wait to see what your next test results show.  I would think they would want to do an ultrasound after your levels get a little higher.  Good luck.
