PLEASE HELP AFTER MISCARRIAGE

I JUST HAD MY FIRST MISCARRIAGE AFTER 3 YEARS OF TTC.  I WAS 13 WEEKS WHEN I WENT IN AND WAS MEASURING AROUND 11 WKS AND 2 DAYS.  I WAS TOLD THAT THE BABY NO LONGER HAD A HEARTBEAT AND THAT THE CAUSE MUST HAVE BEEN A CHEMICAL CAUSE OR AN ABNORMALITY OF CHROMOSOMES.  THIS HAS BEEN VERY HARD FOR ME TO COME TO TERMS WITH.  I FELT SO BLESSED THAT IT FINALLY HAPPENED AND CRUSHED THAT IT WAS TAKEN AWAY.  I KNOW IT WAS OUT OF MY HAND AND THERE WERE REASONS I HAVE TO TRUST WERE THE RIGHT ONES.  NOW THAT I AM JUST A WEEK FROM THE DAY I HAD THE D&C THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK ABOUT IS TRYING AGAIN.   BEFORE I CONCEIVED MY PERIOD WAS NOT TOO REGULAR.  ANYWHERE FROM 6-7 WEEKS APART AND MISSED SOME TIMES OR HAD JUST SPOTTING.  NOW I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL TAKE FOREVER TO GET PG AGAIN.  I HAVE READ THAT YOU ARE MORE FERTILE AFTER MC OR D&C.  MY QUESTION IS HAS ANY OF YOU EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN OR HAD TROUBLE TTC AFTER.  IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS I AM WILLING TO HEAR ANYTHING.  THIS HAS BEEN VERY HARD TO DEAL WITH AND I AM JUST NEEDING ENCOURAGING WORDS TO HELP.  THANK YOU

That would make sense after my D&C my obgyn told me that the bleeding after the procedure was considered my AF. I didn't stop spotting untill about two weeks later so the six weeks it took from the D&C to get my AF would have acutally been 4 weeks so I guess it looks like i'm getting on track...hopefully. At least physically.

If you know that this is for sure your period, then I'm sure the inconsistency is normal. Many times the first 1 or 2 periods are not normal after a m/c. How long after your m/c until you got your period? I'm not sure if its about 4 weeks from when you pass tissue, or 4 weeks from when you stop spotting (I miscarried the week of Nov 9 and 16th and I'm still spotting). I agree that this is a very exhausting and stressful experience. I pray that we don't have to go through it again!!

None leading up to Monday ( when i started ) I felt like it was never going to come i bleieve its b/c of the hcg hormones. I started my period as soon as they fell to zero. The day of I had cramps off and on and that was it. Now its been inconsistant I bleed heavy everynight at 12:00 am to like 9 am but gets lighter throughout the day almost nothing then it starts up at 12:00 am again. I don't know if this is normal? This is what happened during my m/c , but passing tissue and clots this is just normal period blood. not to give too much info. but its like i get tense all day for some reason. I really hope we all get back to normal soon...this has been such an exhausting and stressful time. I pray things will work out for you soon.

yeah i am just spotting now like i am coming off my period.  no cramp or pain.  i did cramp and have some mild pain up until just at 2 weeks after d&c.  so i think it is good that is gone.  i am going to try to track and see if i start before or after the day next that i start this month to see if that was just spotting from irritation or maybe a period.  who know what in the world is going on.  so did you have any cramping or signs you were going to start before you did.

The same thing has happened to me before, but while I was pregnant. It could be just that your cervix is still tender. I have also heard through other stories that it could have been your period. I know everyone is different, but for a majority of women I have talked to who have undergone a d&c like myself should have a pretty heavy period for their frist one. I just started mine yesterday for the first time after my d&c it took 6 whole weeks to get here. It started then it stopped all day untill the middle of the night now its a normal heavy period. It really does sound more like irritation to your cervix. It is so delicated after a d&c. One other thing is your hormones maybe all over the place and trying to drop to zero. I was nauseated and i spotted up to two weeks after my d&c. I hope this helped a bit.

so it has been 2 weeks since i had my d&c and i had sex with protection sunday night and i started bleeding in the middle of the night and bleed the following day and now just spotting.  i had felt like i was going to start my period leading up to that but i was just wondering if that could have been my period trying to start or do you think it was just from having sex.  sex didn't hurt, although i was  a bit afraid it would, as i didn't know how it would be after the d&c hurting so badly.  this morning waking up i am just spotting when i wipe and i still feel like i am going to start.  any suggestions of what in the world is going on?  this is so weird not to know what is goin on with my own body!!

I think you could be pregnant if you used the pull out method. But, you may just be late on getting your period as well. Many times, periods are irregular and not normal after a miscarriage. Sometimes it takes up to 8 weeks for some women to get their 1st period after a miscarriage.

I took a preg. test nov. 22nd and it was negative i have had sex a few times since my misscarriage not to give you too much info. but he used the pull out method, which could make me pregnant i think? You think you could get pregnant if we were just fooling around and not ready to ejacualte? sorry again for the tmi. I think it might be my nerves or maybe my body getting ready for my period. I hope this wasnt to straight forward, but i've never had to ask these questions b/c we were always thinking of it as if it happens it happens...now im torn about how i feel and my husband wants to wait awhile. Maybe in a way im just hoping. is this crazy or what?

I think the nausea is just your hormones. You could take a pregnancy test to see if your hcg is back down to less than 5, and if it comes up positive, maybe they are still not back down to normal. Have you had intercourse since your miscarriage?

No she didn't elaborate on it at all just wanted to inform me since they see it very often in her office. When I had my first appointment i had already been spotting for a few days. I was about 4 weeks 5 days at that point. So she told me it could have been normal and i had not much to worry about, but i believe that is why i had such an early ultrasound to see if things were progressing they way they needed to be. I would feel a little more relaxed about when my period should be coming if i knew my levels were dropping. The only thing that i have been struggling with is nausea for the past couple weeks off and on. It hits me at any time and im not sure if it has anything to do with my hormones levels? I don't think i could be pregnant again b/c i broke out the other day and my breasts aren't tender at all. When i found out i was preg. i felt like i had bad pms, but no breakouts just very tender breasts very tired and very crampy and that was it. This whole process is so confusing.

I think I want my ob/gyn to do hcg testing on me before I have my first appt and first u/s. In a normal pregnancy, at my obgyn, they do not do their first ultrasound until 20weeks. I think everyone should have an early u/s. Also, I think that is interesting that your obgyn said that miscarriage is common, especially with a first baby. I wonder why? Did he/she elaborate on that?
Also, my obgyn told me that if you have a D&C, it takes about 6 weeks from the day of the D&C until a women is "back to normal" with hormones and everything. So perhaps you'll have a period soon. I'm surprised they haven't done an hcg on you since your D&C.

When I went in for my first appointment after taking a pregnancy test at home i was 4 weeks 5 days and my obgyn did check my hcg levels she told me they should have been around 2,000 she called me later that afternoon and mine were 3,000. I think all doctors are different and take different approaches. They should have done an hcg level test since this was your first pregnancy. My obgyn told me at my frist appointment before any testing waas done that 1 out of 4 pregnancys end in misscariage and these are mostly women with their frist baby and half of them end up needing a d&c. It is more common than a lot of us are aware, but as many times as i say this to myself or tell others to comfort its not always reassuring.

it has been almost 6 weeks since my suction d&c after misscarrying for a week and i still havent had my period i am hoping it will come soon so I don't need meds. I went in for a check up a month after the suction d&c and my obgyn didn't do any blood testing like hcg levels or anything probably b/c i had no complications with the surgery. I have always had irregualr periods I always had one every month, but sometimes they would be right on time and others i would be a week late. I really hope to get back on a schedual again soon. did you mean check your levels of hcg after the d&c was performed? I heard it could take anywhere from 4-9 weeks for our next periods due to our levels of hcg need to go back down to zero first. I wish they did do testing I would be at ease a little to know as well if things are going well. I hope this helped. i hope the best for you.

I AM WANTING TO TRY AGAIN LIKE YOU AFTER MY SECOND PERIOD.  IT IS HELL TRYING TO WAIT FOR THE FIRST.  I HOPE THAT AFTER THIS AND GETTING THE D&C IT WILL HELP TO REGULATE THINGS.  TRYING IS ALL THAT HAS BEEN GOING THRU MY MIND.  I DID CALL AND THEY SAID THE RESULTS SHOULD BE IN BY FRIDAY OR BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK.  HOW LONG DID ANY OF HAVE TO WAIT BEFORE GOING BACK TO THE DOCTORS FOR A CHECK UP?  THEY HAVE ME GOING BACK IN 6 WEEKS AND I AM JUST CONCERNED THAT THAT WAS  A LONG TIME FOR THEM TO CHECK MY LEVELS AND MAKE SURE THINGS ARE GOING AS NEEDED.  HAS ANY ONE HAD IRREGULAR CYCLES AND THIS HELPED REGULATE THEM?

Yes, I would say those are all definitely normal feelings. I feel the exact same way. My husband and I both want to start trying right away, but I can't imagine going through this again. We will probably wait until after my 2nd period to start trying again. I have found myself going though many different emotions, thoughts, worries, etc. throughout this whole process. This is probably the hardest thing I've gone though...physically and emotionally.

Thanx for the comment...its really helping getting on here talking with others that know how i feel ya know?  I would love to try right away...but I too feel as if it would be too early and too hard to go through the same thing all over again. My doc. did tell me she thinks my next pregnancy will be completely different and successful, but as many times as i hear that its only reasuring for those few minutes. My husband is very scared to have this happen to us again and i know it scared him a lot to see me in so much pain physically and emotionally during the misscariage. He has told me he would like to wait awhile before we start trying again, which i deffinetly understand, but it makes it that much harder at the same time b/c I want it. I hope these are all normal feelings?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too recently experienced a miscarriage. I was about 7w6d when the baby stopping growing. This was also my first pregnancy, and we were so devastated to find the baby had passed. You never think its actually going to happen to you, ya know? I started the m/c on Nov 9 and am STILL spotting. I just found out today that my hcg is 1700 (down from 7100 a week ago, so things are starting to go back to normal. But...the good thing about this is....at least we know we CAN get pregnant, ya know? My practitioner has always told me it takes an average of 6-12 months for a couple to get pregnant when they are trying. Are you going to start trying again? We are wondering when to start trying again. We would like to after my first period, but afraid its too soon. I definitely don't want to have to experience this ever again. It's probably the most difficult thing I've gone through. I just try to take one day at a time, and I keep trying to tell myself that everything happens for a reason, and God has a plan for us. Also, I've read and heard that having one m/c does not increase your risk for another m/c. Hope that helps some! Take care...

got pregnant July 24th and found out Aug. 28th. My husband and I Were not "not trying," to get pregnant for 9 months then i took a test and it came out positive i was shocked b/c i was thinking we could never have kids. I started having bad cramps around the time i took a preg. test then i started spotting the doctor said everything could be normal, but we want u to come in for an ultrasound so i did and they told me that everything seemed fine. they wanted me to come in the next week for another I thought nothing of b/c this was my first pregnancy. at my second ultrasound i saw a flickering, but they never told me it was an actual heartbeat b/c they couldn't hear it ( i was about 6 weeks along). I had another ultrasound schedualed for the 30th of  september which was my husband and i's one year anniversary of being married. We were so excited that this could be the day that we actually hear the heartbeat and see that the baby has grown. At this time I was 8 wks 5 days along. We went in and found out that our baby had passed away. How devistating this was for us. I was a mess...curled in a ball crying on the medical bed as my husband was holding my hand. I wasn't expecting all of that for our first pregnancy. I was told to wait a week to see if i naturally misscarry. within a week i started to bleed. It was the longest week i'd ever had the pain was excruciating. I went in after a week of heavy bleeding and had an ultrasound i still hadn't pass our baby. That monday Oct. 20th I had a suction d&c to remove the rest of the tissue i couldn't pass. At this point i felt like my body couldn't do anything right. I blead for a couple days then spotting for a week and a half. Now I'm up and down. A girl at work found out she was pregnant the week of my d&c. I also just found out a few days ago my tiwn sister is 5 weeks pregnant. I know god only gives you things you can handle, but this has been the most confusing and difficult thing thus far i've had to endure. I want to be angry, but at the same time I know i can't be that way I am so happy for my twin and I know i'll love my neise or nephew very much. It is such a struggle. If anyone has an advise i would love it thanx.  I am also worried it will take a long time to try again since it took so long the first time. I pray My husband and I will have a healthy babay some day.

KRAY-I'm sorry for your loss. They took my baby for tests too. A few days later I got the results and all they could tell me was that the Chorionic Villi were inflamed which basically just meant that my baby had been dead for a while. Which we already knew. I hope they can give you more answers.

smr08- I'm so sorry for your loss as well...We are all here for both of you...

I am so sorry you are going through this.  Things will probably be difficult for a while but that's okay! I had my m/c this summer after 2+ yrs TTC and it took a while before I wanted to talk to anyone or see people with children.  It took even longer to stop wondering "why"-- I still haven't.  They did send mine off for analysis but the results came back inconclusive. I hear this is the norm in the 1st trimester.

Once things have settled a bit you may do well to be referred to an RE who can figure out why your cycles are long and give you meds to help make sure your're O'ing every month (the meds can also shorten your cycles... shorter cycles= more cycles= more opportunities for a BFP).  If AF hasn't returned after 6-7 weeks, they can also give you some meds to start your cycle again although this seems counter intuitive to me since AF's return seems to be a signal that the body is healing.

My RE said we only had to wait one cycle although for me that was 2+ months... the 2 months were good for healing (the mind & body) though.  We're using fertility meds now and my cycles have been a nice, normal 4-5 weeks lately... it's too soon to worry about that stuff though.  For now, just focus on healing your mind and body... a whole world of fertility help awaits when you're ready and as my RE says, getting a BFP once is a really, really good sign that you'll do it again.

BTW-- you couldn't find a better group of women than you've got here... welcome to the forum!

I went for my checkup and all was fine my OB told us that we can try again, they never checked my levels unless they did in the hospital its kind of a blurr. I would love to try again but im not sure about my husband. I just finished with my first cycle since my m/c.
So I guess we'll just have to see. I wish you the best, please keep me posted

After my m//c i actually went to my primary care physcian and had her draw my levels(hcg)  until they got bback to a non pregnant state 5 and below.

Some women who have had previous m/c and get preggo again, have there doctors draw there levels to make sure the levels are doubbling.

Im not sure about how long it takes for test to come back from having the fetus tested.  keep me posted on what they find.

MY DOCTOR NEVER TOLD ME MY LEVELS.  I HAD BEEN TO SEE THE DOCTOR ON THE 5TH WEEK 3 DAYS BECAUSE THAT WAS WHEN WE CONFORMED WITH AN ULTRSOUND.  I WENT BACK ON THE 7TH WEEK TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL SINCE I WENT TO THE DR. SO EARLY AND I HEARD THE HEARTBEAT BOTH TIMES.  MY 3RD VISIT WAS ON THE 11TH WEEK AND THEY DID THE DOPPLER TO HEAR FOR THE HEARTBEAT AND COULDN;T HEAR ONE BUT THE DR TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT USUAL NOT HEAR IT ON THE 11TH WEEK WITH THE DOPPLER SO I WAS THINKING EVERY THING WAS FINE AND THEN ON THE 13TH WEEK I WENT TO THE 3D ULTASOUND APPT. AND THAT WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT AND THAT WAS THE HARDEST PART BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE BABY AND ALL THEIR PARTS.  IS CHECKING THE LEVELS SOMETHING THEY DO IN THE OFFICE OR IS IT SOMETHING THEY CAN'T CHECK FOR RIGHT WAY.  THIS WAS MY FIRST AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT EXCEPT WHAT I WAS READING. I GO BACK FOR MY 6 WK CHECK UP ON THE 30TH OF DEC.  WOULD THEY BEABLE TO CHECK FOR THE LEVELS THEN?  I ALSO HAD THE BABY SENT TO BE CHECK FOR THE REASON OF THE MC AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS DONE THIS AND ABOUT HOW LONG IT TOOK FOR THE RESULTS.
