pregnancy after a m/c

Hello- I am new here and was referred by a friend who was helped after her m/c. I was 11 weeks pregnant when I m/c. I went for my 8 week apointment and had an u/s done the same day, everything was fine the heart beat was 183 and i was told i was 8 weeks 2 days pregant. on 1/5 i started bleeding and went in for an u/s and there was no sign of life. the tech told me the baby died around 7 weeks (at least that is what is measured on the u/s)? I had a d & c on the 7th and am currently awaiting my period. I was wonding what other peoples experiences have been when to become pregnant again. my OB told me to wait one cycle, however i have several friends who miscarried again after become pegnant for the 2nd time shortly after the 1st m/c (their babies did not have heart beats). I am very confused. on one hand i want to get pregnant again ASAP on the other hand i do not want to go through this experience again so soon after the 1st. any advice would be welcomed

I'm so sorry for your loss.  You have come to the right place for support and encouragement.  The women on this forum are so fantastic.

TTC after m/c is a very personal decision.  From posts I've read, most women are told to wait 1 to 3 cycles, depending on how far along they were and the nature of the m/c.  I had a natural m/c at 8 weeks.  My dr said it was ok to TTC after first AF.  With a d&c there is some concern that your lining build back up.

The "good" news is that, according to my dr, one m/c does not make you any more likely to have a 2nd one.

You are more then welcome to join us in our cycle buddies thread when and if you feel up to it.  Please feel free to post anytime and we will always try to answer any questions and offer our support.

hello there . sorry for your lost.
i would said to wait minimum one cycle just to make sure that everything is ok when you get pregnant again. i know how it feels to wait. i had two early miscarriage and my period took for ever to came back and i was going crazy.. after the second miscarriage i was told to wait four months to let my period to come back to normal. but anyway every person is different. you need to feel strong emotionally aswell as fisically to start to TTC again. the best of luck for you and let me know what you decide

I'm sorry for your loss. Like bam said this is a wonderful place to be for support. I know how you feel about wanting to ttc again so soon. I had a natural m/c and my dr. told me to wait 2 cycles, but we started trying after the first. Now it is 5 months later and still no BFP. I have known women to have healthy pregnancies immediatly after a m/c. I also have known a couple who go on to have another m/c. I don't know that it really makes a difference as long as you are healed. I wish you lots of luck and baby dust.

when the doctors tell you to wait at least one cycle does it mean one cyle after you have your 1st post d and c period or does that very 1st period post d and c count as the 1st cyle?

I'm sorry for your loss. I have had 6 m/cs. I had a m/c at 19 wks it was awful and I ended up having a d and c but actually it was a 3 hr surgery to remove the baby. Sorry to be so graphic. I was not a normal d and c. Less than a yr later I had ovarian surgery due to a car accident I was in in the end of 05. I had 4 m/cs this yr and after my last one is sept I got pg right after my first period. Alot of my problem was the reoccuring utt's I was having and scar tissue from all the surgeries I have had. I know my issue getting pg was my body just wasn't 100%. If you are healthy and have no infections etc you should not have a hard time ttc. Your dr usually tells you to wait a few cycles because sometimes that is how long your body takes to get back to normal plus it gives your mind a chance to heal as well. I hope I didn't scare you I just wanted to give you some hope. My body has been through a war and I still became pg. I wish you the best. I hope you have a quick and smooth recovery! Take care if you need to talk I'm here.
