HCG at 3 almost 7 weeks after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage on 12/31/09, and I was about 7 weeks pregnant.  My HCG was tested to make sure it went down appropriately.  On 1/22/10 my HCG was 17.  Well I got my blood test results back on 2/11/10, and they were at 3 so they said that it 'probably left over from the miscarriage.'   .  Would it take 3 weeks to go down to 3?  I asked if that hcg could be from a new pregnancy but they said "doubtfully" but I don'tknow.  I still haven't had a period and it's been 6 weeks 3 days since the miscarrige. The Dr. said to call them if I don't get a period by 2/28 ( 8 weeks after naturaly miscarriage ) ... is this normal?

Update : Almost 8 weeks after natural miscarriage and still no period...this is getting me a little worried. If it doesn't come by this weekend, I am going to have to go back to the doctor again.  My husband and I have not been trying but not not been trying if you know what I mean.  I have been trying those ovulation strips but Idk, they are so hard to read.  but i think i have had a positive reading this past weekend, but Idk.  Time will only tell, but I am so impatient!

well I'm sure it's possible.  Not every women ovulates before they get there first AF after the miscarriage.  I'd say to keep an eye on ovulation, but you'r so far past it may have happened already. If your hCG are above 10 you won't ovulate, I know that, but under 5 or 10 It should be possible.

Thanks cocacolapanda.  I was just assuming it would go to 0 I guess :) Do you know if I can I get pregnant if my levels are still at 3, or do they have to go to 0? I am just skeptical b/c the first time I was pregnant, I went in and they told me I wasn't pregnant (levels of HCG under 5) and then 1 week later I took a test and it was positive. I have no idea when I ovulate b/c my periods are verrrry irregular. When I got pregnant, I hadn't had a period in 4 months.  I bought an ovulation kit this weekend that I am hoping will give me a better idea of when I ovulate.

Levels of 3 isn't bad, some women don't go down to zero at all (from what I heard).  Anything below 5 (or in some cases 10) is not considered pregnant.  If you don't get your period by the 8 weeks, take a HPT, your levels should defiantly be high enough to get a positive if you are pregnant.
