Pregnancy how soon after miscarriage?

Hi

I am confused! I have heard that people have found out they are pregnant 2 weeks after m/c... Surely this can't be right!

Has anyone got pregnant straight away? and if you did can i asume that you actually only knew you had conceived at 2 weeks after a scan or some other dating technique?

My thinking is that you would have to wait at least 6 weeks before taking a test, then get a confirmed date from a  professional if the test was positive.

The reason I have got thinking is that my OH and I had a little 'accident' about 2 weeks after my m/c ( I bled for 7 days). we are now coming up for 4 weeks since the m/c. I had really wanted to wait 1 cycle before TTC.

When realisticly could I take a test to find out?? It is all so confusing! ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED!

Thank you for all you lovely replies.

I have vowed not to test agin until next wednesday! Still no sign of AF( mind you she could take months I have heard) I did have some spotting and cramping, but that stopped after a couple of hours, so now I am definatly WAITING! ( If I can last that long!) who knows AF might turn up and that would be question answered anyway. I did fall asleep this afternoon though and am feeling pretty rough now! We'll see.... Good luck to everybody x

It is possible but it depends on the indivisual..i had an early mc and hcg was back to zero within 7 days so ..it was possible for me but I haven't goten pregnant yet. There is only a 25% chance each month of getting pregnant so that still applies after mc.

Yes, I actually did get pregnant 2 weeks after miscarriage.  I wasn't worried about protection because I didn't think it would happen that soon.  I was taking pregnancy tests to see when my levels would go back down to zero. I had two negative tests and then after that two positive tests.  The timing between my negative and positive tests show that I must have concieved two weeks after my miscarriage.  I am excited, but nervous.  Excited that I am pregnant again so quickly, but nervous that I'll miscarry again.  I started to miscarry at 5 1/2 weeks and wasn't finished for another 2 weeks.  If I am correct I would be almost 5 weeks right now.  Oh the waiting games...  Good luck to you, hope everything is okay for you too.

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss.  But did you mc naturally or have  DNC?  It can take weeks, sometimes months, for hcg levels to drop all the way back down to zero after a natural mc.  Most doctors, at least the ones I've been to, like to track your levels back down to negative after a mc or dnc so you can figure out when you can start to TTC again. I had my 5th mc (1 healthy beautiful DD 15 months ago, after 4 mc in a row) and had a DNC on 9/3.  I had my levels checked on 9/14 and they were still 24, so I would still show positive.  I go again next week to draw again and hopefully they are back down below 5.  A lot of doctors recommend waiting at least 1 cycle before TTC again so you can time it properly.  If you conceive without getting AF you don't know when things happened and can be off on dates, etc.

Good luck, but I would suggest having your levels checked to see where you are now and then again in a week or so to see if they are going up from a new pg or down from the mc.

Your doctor should be able to check your HCG levels right now, if you feel that you could be pregnant again. I myself got pregnant right after having a miscarriage, so it is very possible. I am a witness to that!!!

well, spoke to my GP friend today who said she would expect my levels to be back to normal by now. I still think i will wait a week and do another test. If it is still +, should I request an HCG blood test? we don'tdo it as a matter of course in the UK. I would feel really embarassed if I wasn't pregnant. and I think they need to track it anyway? any ideas anyone?

Hi

Thanks for the replys, Well a friend said I should do a hpt just to see if it was negative - which would be fine, but it isn't. Infact it is a darker line than i had when I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant!

Eeek, now really confused. i am still pretty sure it is a false positive, am I? oh i'm not sure? Just want a huge glass of wine and a soak in the bath! but I can't ( well i can have a bath obviously!)

I shall wait, and wait and wait. Promise no more tests for 4 weeks.

I had a DNC 3 weeks ago and my HCG levels are back to 0. Also my dr said we only had to wait the 2 week pelvic rest to start TTC agian. And thats exactly what we are doing. I was 12 weeks when I found out that I had a blighted ovum.
A girl I work with had a mc early last December, to only find out on Chistmas she was pregnant agian and is due any day now. So yes, it is very possible to get pregnant 2 weeks after a miscarriage. Ive read that it usually is your most fertile cycle, right after a miscarriage or pregnancy. Good luck to you and just wanted to share my information.

Thank You!

Maybe I should have run the other way when i saw the twinkle in OH's eye!

It seems to me that after all the trauma of m/c, it just gets more confusing and complicated... In UK we don't check hcg levels so I have no idea what mine might be, Infact we don't mention hgc numbers at all!

I'm sorry that you have had to  go through this experience too, but lets keep fingers crossed for future sticky beans!

I don't know...anything can be possible.  I understand why you are wondering how anyone can become pregnant after 2 weeks of miscarriage.  I just took a pregnancy test after my D&C after 1 week and it still says I am pregnant.  I know I am not because I am not allowed to have sex for 4 weeks after my D&C. I am being on the conservative side
and waiting till my hcg levels are 0, so when I take a preg test it won't show up as +. Hopefully by then I will also wait for 2 periods and then try again.  I am going to wait because I don't want to add more stress and become confused and wondering what if and what not, etc.  My Dr. said it'll take 4-6 weeks for hcg levels to go down to 0.  I guess now I have to just wait.
