Process of Miscarriage

I was told that I had an empty gestational sac by two different doctors according to vaginal ultrasound, I was about 10.5 weeks at the time, I do not want to take any pills or d/c but have decided to let it happen naturally. About 3-4 days ago I spotted light brown a couple times nothing consistent just 1x a day or so.. yesterday I bled a tiny bit while going to the restroom this time it was red but that was it, it didn't continue and since yesterday I haven't really had more - just a little reddish/brown when I wiped... last night I had very light cramping but those have seized as well. I'm assuming my body is in the process of miscarrying but not sure what's really going on... Anyone have any similar situations? What is considered normal?

Hi trustingGod and Pum,

So sorry for your loss and for what you're going through.  I had 2 natural m/c's and it took a while before the process started ( 3 and 4 week wait ).  For my first m/c I had infrequent light cramping before I started spotting - light red then red/brownish with liver like "bits" . The bleeding became more red and cramping was frequent and  more intense. I woke at 3 am with the strongest cramp ever and the heavy bleeding started with clots. The on/off cramps/contractions lasted for 2 hours before the sac came out. I bled for about two weeks after that. I felt sore and tired and still had clots (smaller ) and light cramps now and then.
For the 2nd m/c, I had cramps throughout the wait - seemed sharper. Started with light brown spotting and then a week later red/brownish. The day of the m/c, I had longer
cramps and the liver like bits - later on the day turned to red clots. After late dinner 8pm I had more frequent cramps/felt like contractions and when they were 2 minutes apart the worse pain started.  Again, lasted for 2 hours for me before the sac was expelled.

Keep a watch for signs of infection in case some tissue was left ( fever, excessive bleeding, foul discharge etc...)  The bleeding should "wash" it out and the small cramps help work it out too.    I remember with the first m/c - twice it happened - I had a strong short but, painful cramp and a piece of white tissue came out. I was told it was a part of the lining.

Good luck to you both. I found the loss more painful than the physical m/c itself - so , we're all here for you if you need a shoulder to lean on.  My thoughts are with you.

Yes I'm in a similar situation. I spotted on and off for two weeks but now the process seems well underway. Be prepared for it to last a while. My first miscarriage which I also self-managed (what they seemed to call it this morning when I visited the hospital for my options) I bled for 2 weeks, stopped for a week, then bled again for another 2 weeks so 5-6 weeks all up.

Sorry you are going through this.
