Doctor troubles

Posted this in W. Health but no response. Can you help/advise/thoughts?

I have been TTC for 9 months now, had one MC at 5 1/2 weeks along in September. I went to the dr because I thought it was talking so long and before with my first child a dr thought i might need progesterone. So thinking the same thing I wanted to get things checked out. So she (the dr) lined up all kinds of hormone tests for the next cycle and a US at the end of it to see if there was a egg in me or not. She sounded excited and said its about time for another baby lets get things going! she suspected I only ovulate every once in a while based on some other things. But just today I got a letter from my Dr saying she wants to hold off on the testing until another 3 months (which would make it ttc for one year) then come back to see her. Thats a complete change of mind and she sounded all for it and thought I would even need clomid. Then out of the blue she said to wait 3 months??  I want to know whats going on. And what if my prog. is low and i get pg and MC again because of that, but because she is waiting we wont know if its low or something else is wrong until 3 months. Then who knows how long it will take after that to figure it out.  Its just so annoying and driving me nuts! So unless its a merit care policy to wait 1 year i don't know why the dr changed her mind so much.
Anyone have any clues??  Its really bothering me!
thank you!

Like AP said, I would definitely suggest starting some sort of tracking now.  OPK's and BBT.  That way when you do get to a dr that will help, you'll have lots of handy info for them and it should speed the process up.

My GP prescribed me Clomid, but that was it.  She really can't do anything beyond that.  Your next step would be to find an OB/GYN and they may or may not refer you to an RE.

Good luck!  Keep BD'ing and don't lose hope!

I'm sorry for your loss. That is very common I'm in mass and depending on your age here most dr's make you wait a good 6 mos to a yr before giving you any fertility meds etc. Unless you have had an eptopic and lost a fallopian tube etc. Then they will refer you right away to a re specialist. It's great that they gave you a full work up etc. I got the same thing done and it really eased my mind so I knew what exactly was going on with my body. I'm sorry ti's discouraging but there is alot of help out there if your dr won't. Have you thought about finding another dr etc? Remember it's not uncommon for cycles to be messy after a m/c you could still get your period but your ovulation could be messed up etc. Don't lose hope have you tried opks or tracking ovulation or if you o once in a while have you tried bding everyday? There are alot of options. I wish you the best. Take care and good luck.....Let me know what happens.

I totally understand the small town thing.  Our "hospital" actually shut down their maternity ward last year and the dr. I got here when I went to the ER told me I had a m/c, when it turns out I was still carrying a healthy baby.  I found another dr. less than an hour away and feel much more comfortable there than with anyone here.
Good luck finding someone you trust and good luck with ttc:)

This Dr is just a GP I used a OB/GYN for the first child and she was a bit wacky! Thank you for your thoughts.  I will just have to try and get a hold of some one and find out why she is doing this.  I only have one clinic where I live and the dr's here are never really great. Its a small town.   Thanks again!

gardenroses- like the others said dr usualy wait one year to do testing because it is normal for it to take that long. But if your dr seems to think you have a problem with ovulating and progesterone then I cant see the point in waiting. For sure ask her why wait is she suspects a problem. is she just a GP or an OB/GYN?

I agree with Erica.  It has been my understanding that most dr's won't do tests until TTC for 1 year (6 mos if you're over 35).  Maybe it is an insurance thing or despite how excited she may be to help you it is a protocol thing?  I would call your dr up and express your progesterone concern, and see if you can have a test just for that.

Let us know how it goes.

I agree with Erica about maybe finding a new dr. if yours wont tell you why she wanted to wait another 3 months.  I know that many dr.s do wait a year of ttc to see it as a problem...BUT with your concern with your progesterone I would find a dr. that could look into it just in case you do get pregnant.  Just that worry you would have not knowing would probably take all the excitement away of the bfp.  Good luck!

I am so sorry for your loss and so sorry you're having to go through this right now. You might want to ask her why she's decided to wait to do the testing and also if it's safe for you to still ttc while you're waiting for the tests. I do know that most Dr. won't address any reproductive probs. until you've been ttc for a least a year. It's so frustrating, we put so much faith in our Dr.s and they just dismiss us. I have a lot of probs. with my GP-getting appts. and other things, I know where you're coming from. Maybe you should try to find a new Dr. who is ready and willing to address your problem? Let me know how things go. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you get a BFP soon :D
