Natural miscarriage or surgical?

I'm pregnant again after a miscarriage at 9 weeks in september. Unfortunately I just found out that this pregnancy isn't viable either. :-( I am now torn between waiting to miscarry naturally or going to planned parenthood this weekend and taking care of it that way.

I don't know what the best option is. If I wait for it to happen, there's a good chance it'll occur over Christmas while I'm on vacation at my in-laws' (not the most comfortable place for such a heartbreaking experience). Also my last miscarriage was extremely painful for 6 long days. I would prefer a d & c performed by my OB this week, but she's not available until after my vacation.

Has anyone else had this dilemma or gone to a planned parenthood clinic? What about the abortion pill? Any thoughts on what the best option is at this point?

Just got my blood test results. My numbers continue to increase, albeit not anywhere close to doubling like they should (928 last friday, 1464 today). I'm going to have an ultrasound tomorrow morning to confirm that things are still not normal. If that's the case, the d & c will now happen at 3:00 tomorrow instead of on monday. I'm nervous but glad I won't have to wait much longer.

Thanks again for the support, gals -- it helps knowing others have gone through all of this too.

I'm so glad that you got this scheduled with a doctor's office you trust.

With my D&C this summer, they were trying to have a new resident do the procedure and I just wasn't comfortable with her.  She couldn't answer my questions and she seemed about 18 years old!  :(  My Fiancee totally took care of me and got the senior doctor to perform it.

Thinking of you this weekend-

Thanks for your thoughts, cocacolapanda. I spoke to both my OB and my fertility doctor today. The OB is located at the hospital and has to compete with serious surgeries for OR space, so that's why she has trouble getting me in. However my fertility doctor works with a private surgery center and was able to schedule me for a d & c on monday.

So at least I get to avoid going to a clinic!

The pill that they give you can speed up the process, I've heard that many women who take it will start the miscarrying process with in 24 hours, and many are done after on average 4 days (but it can take up to a week still).

I think that if you have the D&C done, you should find a dr that can help you that you trust.  Is there another OB in the dr's office that could do it for you while your OB is out of town?  Things don'g just top when dr's go on vacation.  Maybe you can just tell them you'r having really bad cramps and need to have it done asap.

For me waiting for it to happen was horrible.  I was going to do it naturally and schedule a D&C for a week later if it didn't happen, the next day (Sat) I called in tears saying it had to be done now.  They couldn't schedule it so I called again on Monday and they got me in that day.

My suggestion is to stop eating and call the dr right away and see when you can get in.  You can't eat for 6-8 hours before it's done.  If your dr's office refuses to have it done, maybe there's another in the area that would?

I'm so sorry this happened, especially around Christmas :(  If you feel you need to go to the planned parenthood it wouldn't hurt to go and talk to a dr there.  If you feel comfortable with them then I don't see why it wouldn't make a difference.
