Risks associated with conception after D&C following incomplete miscarriage.

My wife had a missed & incomplete miscarriage recently, followed by a D&C to clear the products that didn't pass.  I understand there are a few schools of thought on trying to concieve after this situation including waiting 3 months, waiting 1 cycle, or getting started immediately.

I understand the emotional trauma and that is one of the reasons behind waiting. Physically however, one concern I've discovered is that it can be hard to date the pregnancy without the first day of the last cycle to base it on. The rest of the information I've found has been extremely varied; one person said it can raise your chance of miscarriage by less than 1% and another claiming it raises the chance of miscarriage by 150%.

Is this mostly an opinion based on doctor experiences? Are there facts? Are there any critical studies I can look at that address the risks of pregnancy immediately after D&C?

I agree with Tausha's comment.  My dr didn't give me any percentages, but he did lean toward the fact that waiting would help my body support a pregnancy better than getting pg. immediately.  I was told to wait two cycles.  Personally, we waited only one cycle because I wanted to get back at trying to conceive.  Unfortunately, we are still trying...LOL.  Good luck to you and your wife and I am sorry for your loss.

The only thing that I could think of that would increase a chance of miscarriage is that the lining of the uterus has to have time to build back up after a D&C.  If you don't let it there is a possiblity that a pregnancy after may not implant properly and could increase chances of a miscarriage.
