ultrasound done today....just found a sac no baby...advice plz

I have a few questions. I found out a few weeks ago I was pregnant. I had a D&C done in June this year. Not sure when my last actual period was because I don't know what's normal after a miscarriage. I have been bleeding & spotting each month around my period time. Went to the hospital today & they did blood work & ultrasound. I have a cyst on my right ovary. Is this bad? Also there was just a sac, no baby or heartbeat....what exactly does this mean? will it pass like a miscarriage or will I need surgery??? I don't have insurance so does the health dept do checks where they can tell if you are infected or not or if there is anything wrong or would I need an ultrasound to make sure everything passes? advice and support would be great. thank you.

Am soooo sorry your going through this :( have you been back to see the doctor?! i had a miscarrige in 02 and it was pretty painful, i was only passing a sac as well. lots of bleeding for about 2 days, the pain mostly lasted for a day. i took regular pain killers but my doctor had to give me antibiotics incase of infection. PM me and let me know how you are doing!

Well I have been cramping yesterday & today, the pain is worse today & there is more bleeding. My stomach hurts so bad that I've had diarrhea. I've been anemic & so losing blood is making me a little lightheaded but I'm trying to drink lots of fluids. Doc didn't tell me anything about what I should take for pain & I'm hurting. Is all this normal for passing a sac? Is it painful? I had a D&C with last miscarriage & only hurt the day of the D&C afterwards.

Hiya! When i had my first ultra sound with my first son, i assuming i was 6 weeks measured only 5 weeks and 6 days, they only saw a sac. no baby no feotal pole either. my HCG levels were increasing however. i went in again 2 weeks later and saw baby and heart beat and sac. i think you should have your levels checked and have a repeat ultra sound in a week or so. dont let your doctors convince you into miscarrige or d&c just yet. wait it out. if it is indeed a miscarrige, it will most likely pass on its own, though am sure your baby is just fine! i dont think you should worry much about the cyst, the info sue gave u is also what ive learnt. just relax though its easier said than done and just get another ultra sound in a week or so. keep us updated and lots of baby dust to you!

They said that I was only measuring 6 weeks on the ultrasound. As far as the cyst I've never had one before . Thank you victoria and sue for your advice. I'm gonna wait another week or so & have another ultrasound done to see if it's progressing & have my hcg levels checked.

Hi Jacksons_Mommy,

I agree with Victoria01 - wait a few weeks to have another ultrasound and maybe have your hcg levels checked to see if they're increasing.  Do you know how far along you are ?
I had an empty sac last October - the embryo had apparently stopped growing about 5-6 weeks.  However , the sac was measured to be 8 or 9 weeks in size.  Its called a blighed ovum.  I hope that is not what you have and that its still too early to see something.  I've read posts on the pregnancy forum and that happened to a few people.   If , unfortunately, it is a blighted ovum - you have can have a d&c or you can wait it out for a natural miscarriage ( which is what I did ).

As for your cyst, here is what it says in "The Pregancy Bible": Your Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Early Parenthood
" An ultrasound can reveal whether or not your ovaries appear normal. Sometimes a small cyst is seen, called a corpus luteal cyst. This is a cyst that forms at the site on the ovary where the egg was released. Over the course of the first trimester, it gradually disappears.  Other types of cysts, unrelated to the pregnancy , also may be found during an ultrasound exam. Whether these cysts need to be removed during pregnancy or afterward depends on their size and appearance. "

Good luck - I hope that you'll have a happy ending.

Hi there. How far along are you? If the ultrasound was done before 6-7 weeks, then it might not show anything. If you are that early in your pregnancy I would wait a few weeks and have a repeat ultrasound done. As for what the health dept does or doesn't do, I'm not really sure, you might want to ask them. I really do hope all turns out well for you and your little bean.
