**************************************************************************

I read your posts and was "happy" to finally find someone who is experiencing symptoms similar to mine. Since August, my face feels like it's on fire, like I should be bet red, but the colour of my skin is normal. Also, since Oct. 1st, my left cheek, especially right under my eye, feels numb most of the time, like when you've been to the dentist and the freezing is fading.

My whole left side (except torso) often feels slightly numb; I Iost some sensitivity on the tip of my fingers; I get very weak for no apparent reason, like my legs are going to give way. I also have on and off sensations of foggyness, dizzyness, especially when I change position too fast.

Since mid-December, I have this almost constant taste of soap or anise in my mouth-- which, thank God, doesn't alter the taste of the food I eat. Sometimes it's so intense that it makes me queezy.

Tonight, I experienced a brand new symptom that lasted only a few minutes: I felt a burning sensation behind my left eye, very hard to describe.

I have seen a neurologist twice this summer and fall, but he is convinced I have nothing but anxiety issues. He prescribed B12, folic acid + herbal tea. Believe it or not, he even mentioned I might have medium (channeling) powers and that my symptoms might be a sign  of that!!! I don't know what stopped me from reporting him!

Thank you for reading this,

Julie

First of all, I am thinking of you right now because both my cheeks are ON FIRE too!!  So weird!

Secondly, it is really unbelievable and honestly negligent that this "dr"  dismissed you with the long history that you have.  He should not be allowed to "practice" on anyone else!!  My GP ordered an MRI with my FIRST complaint of numbness, then referred me on to a Neuro when it came back w/white matter lesions.

I am so glad that you have an appt. w/a new Neuro!  I think you have already seen the worst, so it HAS to be a better experience this time!

I am glad that you found this forum and that someone else knows what it is like to have flames shooting out of their face-LOL!!

Well, it's a little late to welcome you to the forum as you are already a participating member!  And, I hope you have gathered that once you join, you can't leave so you are stuck with us.

First off, the assessment that numbness and burning sensations are all anxiety-related is the product of a defective, stupid and arrogant mind.  The suggestion that you are "channeling" is so unprofessional that it must be reported to the Governing/licensing body of your province.  That really is one for the record books.

I have a couple questions about the burning sensation in your face.  Is it in both sides?  Is it always there, or does it begin burning at certain times?  Is it mostly below the level of the eye, above it, along the jaw or the entire side from the hairline in the forehead down?  The sensation in the face is transmitted to the brain by the Trigeminal nerve.  There is a disorder of severe facial pain, like lightening stabs, called Trigeminal neuralgia.  It rarely happens on both sides of the face at the same time except in MS.  What you are describing is not classic Trigeminal Neuralgia, but it still would be from malfunction of the Trigeminal Nerve.

The abnormal sensation of taste is called disguesia.  It is unusual in MS, but has been reported as a herald of further problems with the Trigeminal Nerve which is the 5th Cranial Nerve and is part of the Central Nervous system.  The trigeminal nerve contains the sensory nerve that sends tast information to the brain from the anterior two thirds of the tongue.  But, the tongue is only capable of percieving salty, sweet, bitter and sour.  The vast majority of taste is additional information from the sense of smell.  Can you tell if the abnormal taste you have is from one side of the tongue or the other?

Symptoms that occur rarely and briefly are not charactieristic of MS.  The pain that you had in your eye would not make someone suspicious for MS, unless you began having it frequently throughout one or more days.  You posted several days ago.  Have you continued to have this problem?

Have you lost sensation in the tips of both fingers or are you still referring to the left side?  Is this fairly constant?

The weakness, foggy head and dizziness you say is off and on.  Can you be more specific?  Dizziness that is positional is more often from the inner ear and not from the brainstem.  You should be evaluated for vertigo.  If it is a type of vertigo called BPPV it is quite curable in almost all cases.

While I'd love to hear your answers, what you need most of all is a new neurologist.  You need a thorough history and neuro exam and you do need an MRI of your brain and spine.  You said that your appointment is on the 29th and that you fear this new doctor won't take you seriously either.  I certainly hope he does.  We have a couple of threads that discuss ways of presenting your information to doctors to help ensure that they take you seriously.  One way is to list your symptoms in a timeline.  Another is to read the thread called something like "The Care and Handling of Neurologists"  where we all listed the things that give us more credibility.  I hope someone can find that thread and bump it up for you.  It was very interesting and was started by Amyloo.

Now others will see your posts and can join in.

Hello Julie and welcome. Wow, that is quite a doctor visit you had there. What tests did your Neuro run and do you know the results?

It is very comforting, isnt' it, not to be suffering, but to know that you are not alone in this big world with these problems.

I am sure you will get some great advice soon. Great to have you with us!
