Go ahead and cry. You need to and it will help get this jerk out of your system. When you pull yourself together, start looking for a decent MS neuro. You don't want that moron treating you anyway.
Hang in HERE meanwhile.

thanks so much but the think is my pcp referred me to him how will i find another one and second of all i guess i will wait and see the optic neuro tomorrow and see what he says.... i feel like i am crazy
Hey, Do not cry over a dense, defective, misogynistic neuro. He is of that very common school of "Shame the obese patient and blame all medical problems on the obesity." It is a mean-spirited and cowardly way to practice medicine. It is also the easy way out (ie. he doesn't ever have to think and all the overweight patients will leave his practice.)and you are well-rid of him. He is really a doctor - a VERY BAD doctor. You need to find a new neurologist.
Your neurological symptoms are not caused by your weight, unless they are part of the syndrome of Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, and Obesity which causes early hardening of the arteries and repeated small stokes. In the elderly there is a type of optic neuritis caused by narrowing of the arteries which causes vision loss. He is conveniently applying this to you to dismiss you. I suspect he also hates women.
BUT, this does win you automatic membership in our Greek House, Hypo Gamma Chondria for getting such a defective neuro who blamed all your problems on you. Sheesh! On Fridays we have a big wienie roast and your neuro is first up for roasting!
Who's bringing the marshmallows?
I'm so sorry he happened to you. We've all met them. We've all come home from appointments in tears. They nasty and dense, dumb, defective, dismissive, dweebs and dodo's and don't deserve their license to practice. That's why we're here to help you over the blow (because it is awful to go through what you just did) and move along to a better evaluation. Stay with us. He is the nutjob, not you.

You are so cool!!! I want to be the first to light the fire at this weinie roast. But putting all jokes aside my PCP referred me to him and she said because he was at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC that he was one of the best. If this is the best what is the worse???? Maybe I need to try UNC hospital maybe better luck there as much as I do not like the tarheels I guess it would be worth a try. How many do I have to see before I get the right one. I am still going to go to the optic neuro tomorrow maybe he will have some good news but the last time I left there crying too. I sure have a lot of tears lately to share just not a lot of balance.
Sweetie...I can relate to having to deal with a weinie of a neurologist and I have moved on to a new neurologist and I am still having a frustrating time but I believe that we have to persevere and be proactive for ourselves.
Even though that idiot told you that the optic neuritis has something to do with your weight, I would take that as a stroke in your favor. I would immediately call and ask to speak to or see your pcp and ask them it they have ever heard of there being a correlation between ones weight and optic neuritis? Of course the pcp is going to say no and then you will have your chance to explain that the "best" neuro that you were sent to by this pcp said that there is a correlation between the two and in the same breath you can ask for a referral to a new neurologist...preferably one that doesn't have his head up his a**!!! That is just unconscienable that a supposed well educated doctor would say something so assinine!
ARRRGH! Why are these people getting away with this ****! This is supposed to be a society that is moving ahead with the times and yet a "professional" is speaking to someone like that and getting away with it just makes me SICK!!!
I agree with Quix that your doctor gets the biggest hottest most cruel looking weenie stick in the bunch! Don't cry honey...get busy and get proactive! I am finding that crying is not getting me anywhere and maybe getting mad doesn't either but at least I am trying to get things moving for myself and you can too! I know that it is tough when you are not feeling well but you have to keep on trying...eventually we all get our answers but I believe they are much more satisfying if we can say we did it ourselves!
We are behind you 100% and we can try to help with the balance...it's easy to just sit down but much more satisfying to keep on going till we get what we want! Go for it girl!
Lots of Hugs,
Rena705
I know so many of us here can relate to your experience. I just went through the same thing, having a very dismissive physician who would not give me the time of day.
Its so frustrating when you wait and wait for what seems like forever to see these so called specialists and you pin such high hopes of getting answers from them, only to be crushed when you see them.
Just get rid of this one immediately. Do not see him again. Go back to your pcp and say you want another one. I am in the process of doing that now.
Good luck and keep us posted.
...sometimes you gotta kiss a lot of frogs.....
:)
That's a weird one! I've heard of a neurologist telling somebody that cigarettes were the cause of all their symptoms, but not their weight!
well i did the cig thing too but i quit that back in november
I WENT TO A NEURO THIS SUMMER BECAUSE OF ON AND WAS TOLD MY PROBLEMS WERE BECAUSE I HAVE 7 CHILDREN AND DON'T TAKE ENOUGH TIME FOR MYSELF.
I AM SO SORRY YOU WERE BRUSHED OFF LIKE THAT. IT IS NOT FAIR.
