MS & Pregnancy

I was Dx with MS 4 years ago, I started Betaseron injections right away. I will be 24 years old on 12-14.  I recently stopped taking Betaseron in August.  My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since August.  Has anyone or know anyone with MS that has had trouble getting pregnant?  I am worried that I can't because of the medication I was taking or if it is from MS.  Maybe I have some other problems, my grandma died from ovarian cancer.  Till I can get in to see the doctor this is going to be bothering me.

Heather gives you the best advice here.  I just wanted to add that there are a lot more preventative measures in place when it comes to ovarian cancer, especially where the HPV is concerned.  Since your 24, you may even be aware of the vaccines, and other meds on the market that they are recommending to girls at a very young age, even before sexual activity.

A long time ago, they didn't have this, and women did not find out anything was wrong until it was too late, and I'm so sorry for the loss of your Grandmother.

I hope we can put your mind at ease a bit, to get you through while you wait on your appointment.

I wish you all the best w/getting pregnant and having children.

Be well,
SL

Welcome to our Forum.  I went to the Betaseron web site and it does not say anything about any difficulties getting pregnant.  Good thing you have stopped the medication while you try to become pregnant, as pregnancy is contraindicated to try if you are on Betaseron.

Since you have been trying since August to get pregnant, I do not see that as a long time.  If you have not become pregnant with a six month time frame, I would suggest that you contact your doctor.  Most of all, stop TRYING so hard...relax.  It will happen when you least expect if you get rid of the stress (considering all things are normal with your reproductive cycle and your husband has a normal sperm count)

Try not to stress out, okay.  Like I said, I checked out the Betaseron web site for you and there is nothing there that suggests that you should have trouble conceiving.  One thing good about getting pregnant, you will see that your MS symptoms will either stop or being little to nothing.  Not to mention how wonderful it will be carrying new life inside of you.

Again welcome to the forum and let us know how things go.  I congratulate you early.  I know everything will work out for you.  We all will want to see pictures of the little one, when the time comes.  Promise?

Hang in there dear.  And Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Heather
