Phantom Itch with Multiple Sclerosis

I have MS, I have numb feet and hands, and fall alot.  I have been able to deal with those symptoms ok.  My question is - I have a spot on my chest right along where my bra band runs that hs the phantom itch.  The itch is so painful, I itch it thinking there will be relief but, instead just irritate the skin.  The bra band rubbing on that spot drives me nuts.  Not wearing a bra is not an option, I work and have larger breasts, not wearing a bra would be really inappropriate.  The best way to describe it is the bone itches.  The area is approximatley 3 inches around.  Does anyone have any suggestions of medication, lotions or anything else that might help.  This is the one symptom that really, really is hard to live with.

Thanks So Much
WYSS

I have not been diagnosed other than "probable" at the moment but i too itch and it is very annoying. My suggestion would be a sports bra. They are more comfortable, different material and won't sit right on the itch ..... it's worth a try. I hope you feel better ..

I have this problem too but mine is my back where the bra strap runs and my scalp... I feel like I have lice or something... I'll take both hands and scratch til I almost bring blood and still no relief... It's the same way with my back... I have a back scratcher and I'll claw my back until it almost bleeds... Sorry ya'll are going through this too...

I'll be praying,
Carol

Hi.  I don't seem to have the itch quite like you, however if the bra strap is irrating you  (and I have experienced that) my suggestion would be to put some gauze or a gauze pad over the area so that the bra strap isn't rubbing on the skin.  I don't know if it will help you, in the past it has helped me.

Good luck.

I am so sorry you are dealing with the itch! I too have problems with this.
Mine however are in my ear canals!!!! uggghhh

They tried a ear oil which did give me some relief and basically I treat it like  eczema.

Gabapentin did not work for me either.
My MS specialist doesn't believe it related but I totally disagree! I have seen too many people deal with eczema like symptoms!

Go to your GP and discuss treatments , take care!

Hi Wyss,

Obviously I don't have the boobs, but yeah the itch drives me crazy too. I will be in a meeting at work and all of a sudden I am compelled to just scratch the top of my chest and stomach all over. I haven't had to give any other explanation other than 'you wouldn't believe how itchy I am right now'. People do think it is slightly odd but then compared to one colleague who coughed up phlegm into a hankie and another who ate with their mouth open, it all seems quite 'normal' really. It does lighten the mood of meetings some what so is a positive. Sorry, nothing I've tried works which is Gabapentin tablets for electricity and some sort of steriod based anti inflammatory cream.

Blessings
Alex
