I was given the diagnosis last Wednesday. My symptoms started with nystagmus in left eye. Head tremors, speech problems, neck extensions. It was pretty scary but not painful. Not until steroids has my back been aching at night. Im so sorry your in such pain. My heart goes out to you. I don't know much about ms ...but I'm here if you need someone to listen.
Tammy
Yes this is very new. I was just diagnosed last week. When were you diagnosed? What drugs are you thinking about throwing into the mix? My dr. wants me to seriously think about going on avonex after the steroids. He said it was up to me but dont wait forever to make the decision. He stressed not to wait until I had another episode. I've never been a medicine taker. Not even birthcontrol bills. He gave me info on the advonex and thought it would be a good idea to start it but here I am wondering how do I know what type of ms I have?? It could be the one where I dont have alot of attacks? I am so overwhelmed by my emotions, my symptoms, and financially that I cant think straight.
Hi Tammy i started having problems with my eyes in December, my eyelids would not open. That went on for about 4 weeks. When my eyelids opened my left eye was shooting out to the left. I started having problems with balance double vision ect.... I was treated with a oral steroids that time 20 pills a day for 5 days. What a terrible experience talk about not know what is what.
I was dx with MS in Jan after the MRI and LP tests.
This was my second time doing the IV steroids. the first time i only did 3 days and never really got better. I have been having a banding sensation around my torso. my left hip feels like there is a clamp on it. i woke up one morning and could hardly stand up the banding was so tight my lower back was numb.
I'm feeling a lot better today i still feel some but not as much pain. And my head is much much clearer I can actually think some what ;-)
Have you been diagnosed with MS? How long have you known? Whats going on with you that you had to have steroid treatments?
Neita ;-)
Some MS centers have stopped the two week oral taper after IV Pulse therapy. There is some evidence that the low does taper after high dose IV Steroids does very little.

I can so relate Tammy. I had high hopes that the steroids would knock my symptoms out of existence. Instead I'm more confused than ever about what symptoms are caused by the disease and what is from the drugs and what is just plain angry teeth nashing.
I took my last taper pill today and am trying to be patient to see how this works out before throwing something new into the mix. I don't want to make it harder yet to figure things out.
I think I remember this is all very new to you? It probably would be a good idea to call the office and ask some questions. They should want more updates from a newly diagnosed patient.
Hope your 'roids do the job.

sounds like side effects to steroids. they can cause mood swings. make you jittery, even make tremors worse. indigestion, difficulty sleeping. depression, diarrhea, and a bunch of other things. if these are severe you may need to call your doctor and let them know. they might have you come in to see them.

I can totally relate to not knowing what normal is anymore. I'm jittery, then as the day goes by I'm exhausted. I was constipated, now diarrhea. My back is aching terrible at night. My emotions range from feeling a flat, not happy, not sad, just nothing....to just crying for no reason. Then wondering is this the medicine? Is it the MS? Is it just me? I hate this.
Have you been diagnosed with MS? How long have you known? Whats going on with you that you had to have steroid treatments? I hope you feel better also.
Hi
I also went off iv steroids on the 13th and have 2 weeks of prednisone pills. I'm definitely starting to feel better. Still get tired easily and need rest but feeling better then i did.
I also seen stars a couple of days while getting the IV treatments. Such a strange sensation.
I really don't know what is normal any more, but i hope you feel better very soon...
Take Care,
Neita
