Leg Numbness

My daughter woke up about a week ago with numbness in her legs
located on the inside from her big toes up to three inches above
her knees. No apparent reason. She's very active, she had run cross-country last fall, and indoor track this winter,so she's been healthy.
She had a brain MRI, a spinal MRI, and blood testing,so far everything has come back normal.
After all these test's,the doc's have no answer.
In Jan. she presented a problem swallowing.Nothing lodged or stuck and no apparent reason. I brought her to the doctor. No answer. Doc told us to go home and see what happened and after a few days she was OK.
Aprox March 28 '03 she slid down stairs at school on her lower back and experienced a good amount of pain and numbness in her in her left buttuck when she sat down.
She hasn't had a period for about 7 Months and just started this past week.
The numbness in her legs is very upsetting and inhibitting.Any insight would be appreciated. Thank You very Much!

Please keep in mind I have never seen your daughter personally (don't even know her age) nor have I reviewed her record. An EMG would be the next step to look at the integrity of her muscles and nerves.  Evoked potentials are also another consideration to look at the pathway of the nerves from the limb up through the spinal cord to the brain. Abnormalities on these tests (EMG and evoked potentials can help document if there has been any nerve damage.

Although I'm certainly not a gynecologists, I would guess that the missed periods may be due to all the running she's done as intense exercise is well known to affect the menstrual cycle.

Talk to your docs about an EMG and possibly evoked potential studies. If no answer is found, consider a second opinion at a major academic pediatric hospital with a peds neurologist. Good luck.
