Can Whiplash cause all this

Up until yest my partners symptoms were all atributed to a brain haemorrhage that he suffered June 07. I was always convinced his haemorrhage was cause by the car accident that he was in 3 months earlier (Mar 07). Yesterday his consultant told us that the only symptom he should be suffering from is double vision due to where the bleed occured and no longer needs to see him.

He has a loss of power on his left side and a major loss on his right side, loss of sensation down his entire right side, difficulty with speech and memory, blurred vision, mood swings and a pain running from his neck up through his head to the back of the left eye. All of these symptoms he had before the hamorrhage apart from the loss of sensation and his eyesight which now causes him double vision when he looks up, left or right quickly.

He has had an MRI done on his neck and back which show some bulging of a disc in his neck and a slight bulge in his back though still waiting on a hosp appoint to see about it.

He was in the car accident 3 months prior to haemorrhage and told he has whiplash. On night he had his haemorrhage 3 hour before his neck clicked when he turned his head and locked for a few minutes.

Could it all have been due to the whiplash from car accident and unlucky the haemorrhage happened when it did? Who do we see now regarding finding out what can be done to help him now?

Hi there.

Due to the long interval between the accident and the hemorrhage, it is somewhat very hard to pin this hemorrhage incident with the accident three months earlier, except if the type of hemorrhage is a chronic subdural hematoma.  Chronic subdural hematoma may be asmptomatic at first and slowly evolves to compress vital brain structures leading to all these symptoms.

The bulging discs on the neck are the ones that may be directly related to the accident that happened.  Indeed bulging discs can cause all of these neurologic symptoms and may have to be assessed if an operation is warranted.  A good neurosurgeon or a spine surgeon would be the doctors most likely to help in his case.

Regards.
