Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.
Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of your symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.
Following viral illness, nerves can be affected, from what is thought to be a dysregulation of the immune system. The central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and/or peripheral nervous system (nerves to the arms and legs and autonomic nervous system) can be affected. These symptoms can include aching/cramping muscles and as you mention, tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms can include headaches, and in severe cases confusion and focal neurologic deficit (such as weakness). Most often, symptoms resolve within a few days or weeks of the viral illness. In rare cases, this can progress to more serious problems such as weakness of the arms or legs, as occurs in Guillian-Barre syndrome. The symptoms are most often reversible, though in some cases, hospitalization and later rehabilitation are required, depending on what part of the nervous system is affected, and to what extent.
Follow-up with your regular doctor is recommended.
Thank you for using the forum, I hope you find this information useful, good luck.
Hi
How do you know your symptoms are post viral? Could they be a side effect of any medicine?
