My son who is 23 yr.old has had a seizure, he had something like small episodes, but was told he had migraines, silent migraines etc. Well now he has had the worst seizure of all, and he doesn't have a job, no insurance, can't get help anywhere. please can you tell me what can be done. he is on dilantin, 100mg, 4 times a day. I am afraid of what might happen to him, I don't know what needs to be done.

Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear what had happened.  Seizures in the adult can have several causes that should be evaluated thoroughly.  That's why scans of the brain, blood tests, and EEG (measuring the electrical activity of the brain) are requested.  If no reversible cause is found, then the patient may have to be maintained on anti-seizure medications for an indefinite period of time.  The best that you can do for now is make sure he is able to take in the medications prescribed.  You can also ask your doctor if there are any ongoing clinical trials or studies that can offer some assistance regarding the provision of medications.  Be strong.  Regards and God bless.
