NF, with clonus, brisk reflexes and muscle jerks.

I have NF type 1 and because of very brisk reflexes and clonus in my ankles PCP sent me to neuro for exam, had MRI of brain and c and t spine negative except for subarachnoid cyst in the left rear temporal lobe.

recently I have noticed along with the clonus that I get severe jerks for no reason. My legs or arms will just jerk back 3-6 This usually happens at rest, or as I am trying to fall asleep.

I tend to over worry but with a negative neuro exam only 3 months ago what are the odds these things signal a motor neuron disorder.

I had artificial disc replacement surgery 4 years ago. I have been on pain meds ever since with severe pain in feet, legs and lower back. I recently begin to have severe muscle jerks in legs and arms. Last week my scalp on the right side of my head went numb and my left ankle was severly swollen and numb on bottom of foot. What is happening to me? Is it medication related? The muscle jerks seem to increase when i am drowsy or am just falling asleep. Anyone recognize any of this? I am 43 years old and male in decent physical shape considering the back situation. Im on several meds that may cause it when I am out or forget to take them etc. Im not sure.

I am am a worried mother of 5 months old baby. My son still shows ankle clonus in both his legs. Beats arevmore than 10 when he is about to sleep. I check it intensionally by putting finger below his upper toe. Doctors at apolo are asking us to wait till 6 months. My baby is otherwise fine.He is now 7.5 Kg,& 65 cm.He smiles & recognises me. Started rolling over in 4 months.Gets himself in crawling position.
I am really tense please guide me.

Hello.

There is probably only one rare case noted in literature of a patient of NF type I associated with ALS. Apart from this, there are no references to my knowledge.

I do understand your worry. I would like you to think of any other symptoms that you have which suggest ALS. But this does not mean you have to hunt for them.

If you get the jerks while you are falling asleep, it is normal. But if you get them any time of the day, then we need to investigate further.

Stress is also a very common cause of spasms. You may consult a neurologist and clear your doubt about ALS.

Regards
