Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

Numbness into the toes can be from multiple nerves. The most common is the common peroneal nerve. This nerve can be compressed at several sites with the fibular head (the bone on the outside of the leg) being the most common. When involved, there may be associated weakness of lifting the foot up and turning the foot outwards.

Non-surgical treatment is the first option. This treatment may include medications (non-steroidals such as advil), sometimes steroids if there is swelling (edema), temperature therapy (hot or cold packs), stretching and controlled physical therapy, muscle relaxants, and so on, these are best prescribed by an experienced physician, each has its own indications.

If you have not had one done, it would be important to have an MRI of your lumbar spine and also to have an EMG/NCS performed to assess the extent and which nerves are affected. These can be performed at most local neurological centers (hospital and/or clinics).

I suggest you follow up with your primary physician. You may need a referral to a local neurologist.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.

FYI, I developed a numbness in my leg from the knee down to my toes, similar to your situation. I neglected to address the condition , in a timely fashion.  As a result of me ignoring the problem, I developed "foot drop". DO NOT let this condition exist without  seeing  a Phyisiasit ( pain doctor)
