Strange Feeling When Walking

I have been expeieincing some very weird symptoms for almost 8 months now. I am a 34 year old male in good health overall.
After being sick with a few upper respiratory infections back in February, it felt like I never recovered fully.  I went to see my primary doctor several times who ran standard blood tests which came back fine excpet for elevated cholesterol levels.  He then sent me to a ENT who examined me and sent me for an ENG which cam back fine.  I then began to really worry about the way I felt and wound up in the ER 2 times within 5 months with what turned out to be panic attacks.  My primary doctor said I have anxiety and wanted me to take something for it, but I did not want to go on Paxil. I was sent for an MRI of the brain and ears which came back with 2 small white spots on the films.  I had a consultation with a neurologist who said the spots look like prior trauma, not MS.  He gave me an exam which I passed and said repeat the MRI in 6 months.  I recently repeated the MRI and there was no change. I also saw a cardiologist and had a stress test which I passed and all of the blood work I had prior to my ENG came back fine. When I tell people how I feel they look at me like I am crazy - the sympom that has persisted for the past 8 months is this weird feeling I get when I am walking.  I can be walking along fine then all of a sudden it feels like I step on a water bed, or the ground gets spongey for a step or two.  I don't lose my balance, or fall. It happens almost daily several times a day and it freaks me out. Have you ever heard of something like this ?

I also experience the same symptoms daily, as well as hot flushes and break out in heavy sweats, I have had an MRI which was clear and a blood test which showed I have low iron and B12 Defieniency which I now get monthly shots for and daily iron supplements. The doctors seem to think that I have anxiety but it doesn't seem possible that all this is happening from that when I don't even feel anxious or stressed about anything...

Did you take any quinolone antibiotic (levaquin, tequin, cipro) for your february infection?.

They cause a transient cholesterol elevation (three fold), plus many central nervous system disorders, mainly pannick attacks and brain disturbances. Most doctors search in their quinoloned patients for MS because both resemble so much.

The weird feeling walking is also described in that type of reactions, and in those cases is due to a mononeuritis of some nerves of the lower leg.

But your case could have a different origin. Just some info for discarding causative agents.

i also get those feelings...it almost feels like your head bobs quickly and you feel a little off balance but never fall...i think mine are due to pvc's that i didnt know i had until i started to feel them and that sensation came along with them...it's kinda scary but i've been having them for over 20 yrs ...some weeks/months i never have them and somethimes they are daily......        you could look it up and see if your symptoms relate to premature contractions   good luck

I have had the exact same sensations you described so well during episodes of increased anxiety combined with lack of sleep. The symptoms disappeared when my sleep returned to normal
and the anxious state passed.

I do not think I can explain this symptom. It appears that you have had a good evaluation. I assume your neurologic examination is normal, and cannot think of a specific diagnosis to explain this. Good luck.
