Smell of nonexistent urine

Recently, I have been smelling something similar to urine that is nonexistent, walking through the grocery store (different grocery stores), in the pool, in the yard, one minute it is there stronger than life and the next it is gone.  Today when it happened I was in the pool with my sister, she didn't smell anything.  I have actually had to leave stores because the smell was so overpowering, yet no one else seemed to notice.  Is this just my imagination?  Should I have it checked out?

I still to this day experience smelling a "dirty ashtray", though this is something I first experience 12 years ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd son.  My OBGYN assured my that most pregnant women experience this (though I always thought they only experienced "hating" certain smells...Not "Imaginary" smells).

So, with all my messed up symptoms I experince with everything else that is "unanswered"...I just try to ignore that Horrific Smell, and eventually it goes away for a day, week or month, until it rears its ugly head again.

I keep thinking there must be some autoimmune thing (yes I have that too) is messing with my (is it?) Olfactory senses area...???

I thought I was the only one who experienced that!  In my case, it turned out to be sinus issues.  I never put it together because I didn't have sinus headaches or drainage until days or weeks after noticing the ammonia-like odors in places they shouldn't be present.  It was actually my allergy doc who figured it out. As long as I keep the allergies under control with claritin or zyrtec, so they don't develop into a sinus infection, I don't smell odd things any longer.  Hope it turns out to be that simple for you.  :-)
