Dear Anon:
Sorry about your back problems. Yes, your former injury could be causing your symptoms. I would suggest seeing a neurologist and getting an MRI of your back. It may be that you have developed alittle degenerative disease that is inducing your back pains. The headache may or may not be related, if you suffered some head trauma, then it is likely part of the problem of the headache. A good neurological exam and history will help sort out some of the potential problems and give you a better idea of what is going on.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro MD
My chiroprator did a spinal x-ray not long ago and said I have some arthritis starting in my neck. I know that MRI is better so I will discuss this with my GP. I did have a MRI of my head and all was normal. Thank you for your quick response.
Anon,
Yes, there may be a direct connection to the accident of many years ago.It may be advantagous to also get another chiropractic opinion concerning your cervical spine. Also, do the headaches happen at the same time each month? Something to note.
Good Luck!
Chiro Doc
Thank you for your concern. Yes I do seem to get the headaches at the same time monthly, they start with a knot in the back of my neck, and gradually turn into severe pain. I am also experiencing some slight tingling in my extremeties. I will get an appointment with another chiro.
I was in a hwy accident 26 years ago. My neck was broken (c-3 and c-4), my spinal cord was torn half way into, and I had a concussion on my right forehead. The docotors fused c-2, c-3, c-4 and c-5.
The damage to my spinal cord was diagnosed as Brown-sequard syndrome which I understand is a rare disorder. I have a "sissor-walk", weakness on my left side, lack of heat sensitivity on my right leg, muscle twitches, stiffness after inactivity and several other strange conditions.
I do have occassional sever headaches that are accompanied by sharp pain but they usually don't last long.
I have visited a few chiropractors when I have back spasms and most of the time I get relief. I was prescribed some muscle relaxers that helped but have found consistent soaking in my hot tub to be effective.

Dan, thanks for the input. Did your symptoms start immediately after the accident or are they just occurring now?
