Upper thigh numbness

I have had upper thigh numbness along with severe burning pain and stabbing "wound like" pain in my left knee for almost 2 months. At the onset - this was accompanied by severe back spasms - which took almost a month to dissipate.  MRI, EMG and Cut’s are relatively normal with nothing seeming like a cause. I have also had 4 epidurals of which the last one gave some relief ...but just a bit. The orthopedist and Neuro- surgeon both have no answers. I do not understand how such pain can be experienced without anyone finding the reasons. Can anyone help with where or what to do next?

Had an EMG - which was normal. At this point - which doctor would be the specialist to explore the myopathy? Thanks

Hi.

I believe that an angle to be considered is the probability of a primary muscle problem or 'myopathy' than can give ris to this type of pain.  Muscles can swell or become inflamed causing pain which can be referred to different areas of the leg, buttocks and back area.  An EMG or a biopsy of the muscle may be needed.

Another consideration is micronutrient deficiency causing a severe form of neuropathy (such as that of lack of the B vitamins).

If all of these turns out to be negative, and further diligent search becomes unfruitful, then this can be labeled as 'idiopathic' and treatment will just be directed towards the symptoms.

Regards.
