VERY UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCE - PLEASE HELP

I have an unusual situation that seems to have dx confused and sending me from specialist to specialist.  The following is what I know to be true:

Symptoms:

I have a swimmy feeling 24 hours a day in my head.  It feels as if you had a hangover in the morning without a head ache.  Sort of a mild disorientation.  Additionally, I have what I call a sheet of surrand wrap (spelled wrong) placed over my vision 24 hours a day.  I can see a blanket of what looks like bacteria in my eyes with white things moving about like they were amoeba.  Al the time.  I also have needle like pains intermittantly in my head neck leg and arms.  I feel my muscle strength in my eyes horizontally reading is somewhat weak.  When I read fast, my mind gets muddy.  I have a swollen knot just under my ear and jaw.  not sore but hard.

No headaches, seizure, trouble speaking.

I am 35 years old and 15 years ago while in college I got sick.  However it wasn't necessarly a flu like symptoms but overtime I got tired etc...  I was working at the YMCA with kids.  After about a month, I went to a walk in clinic and the doctor said it was a head virus and gave me amoxicillin.  This cleard the head symptoms up about  50% of the way.  However, I learned to live with it and went on the graduate school and life and said I would get it checked out later on in life.  Symptoms have not progressed or gotten worse.  Now I am having my first child and am anxious to get fixed if you will.

Went to Opthamologist, neuro Optha, Retina sp, neurolgist.  No tumor or mS no optical problems.  No HIV.

HELP!

I have this: 24 hours a day i see flickering in my eyes, needles kind stabbing and itching on my legs anfd arms and scalp, feeling of disorienation, problems with keeping my ballance. And 10 other strange complaints. For years i went to neurologists, neuro-ophtalmologists which could say nothing. They made me EEG, CT scan, a few other tests, which revealed nothing. MRI they said is too costly and not needed in this situation. Join the club buddy, most chances you have some disorder in your brain, which is most likely linked to blood flow. Oh, and probably you will live with this for the rest of your life.

I am not a doctor, but have a family member who experienced similar visual problems after a stroke affecting his optical vein. Have you been evaluated for this possibility, or for macular degeneration? The stroke produced visual changes similar to macular degeneration -- there is a "fog" over the central vision, loss of visual acuity, and changes in the appearance of straight lines. He doesn't tell me whether he has "floaters." It also caused a bit of mental confusion and dizziness. His was caused by very high blood pressure, but I think a blood clot in the carotid artery can also do this. The clot or problem, in his case, cleared up quickly but the visual problems took a long time to get better and are expected to never fully resolve.

I would go with what the doctor suggested.  Inflammatory markers, and B-12 evaluation.  I had the inflammatory tests done, but not the B-12.  My memory seems to be getting worse, but I blame that on my two kids.  They keep me hopping.  I know it can be annoying to not feel right for such a long time.

I was 37 when my symptoms started with tickling/tingling sensations in my left foot and up my leg in spots.  This was two years ago.  Had 2 MRIs, which showed a small lesion in the thoracic spine, and a nodule in my left thalamus.  One year later, the spinal lesion was gone, the nodule in my thalamus was still there, but the doc seems to think that I may have been born with it.  The tickling/tingling lasted for 7 months and it slowly diminished in intensity.  Since then, my heart rate, which was always on the high side to begin with, has increased, resulting with me being on Toprol XL 100 mg.  My eyes have on rare occasions (maybe 3 or 4 total) where light seems to be amplified, and I am looking through a fog.  Like my house is filled with a light smoke.  This is noticed at night, and I just usually go to bed and wake up fine.  My floaters are more numerous at times, but maybe I am noticing them because I am paying more attention.  My vision in one eye has also gotton a little bad.  I always had great eyesight.  But, maybe that is because I am getting up there in age.  I have other vague symptoms, but try to ignore them.  I will go back to see my neuro when all the holiday hoopla is over.  Originally, my GP and neuro thought about MS, but have not concluded that.  I don't think I have it.  Auto-immune disorders run in my family, but not on the extreme.  I hope it just goes away eventually.  I have heard viruses can cause a lot of weird sypmtoms, as stress, but I don't feel like a stressed person...Have a good holiday weekend..,Lisa

lmroswell,

How old are you?  Do you have distorted vision?  Have you been checked by a doctor for anything?

Thanks

I have had weird symptoms on and off for over 2 years.  I do have floaters, that are a transparent light grey, and look like small strands, with small round shapes that look like bubbles.  I had the tingling/tickling in my left foot that lasted for 7 months.  I need to go back to my neuro but am almost hesitant to describe these symptoms, because it sounds like I am crazy.  I also get occasional twitching noises in my ears, and ears tickle sometimes, too.  I don't have an answer for you... I am hoping that mine will just eventually go away...

Your case is complex, and without examining you I cannot provide a diagnosis. To help evaluate for causes a MRI of the brain would be helpful. This will evaluate for structrural changes and inflammatory conditions (such as MS). If the brain MRI is normal and your lab tests, including B12, thyroid, & inflammatory markers are normal then other possibilities should be considered. One possibility would be complicated migraine. You do not have to have pain to have a migraine like event. You could obtain a second opinion from an academic center and ask about this possibility. Good luck.

Additionally, I have tingling like something growing in my head down my scalp, face and neck.  The confusion is the 15 years.  Can a parasite or virus remain dormant for this length of time?  Could it be LYME disease?  Nothing is noticable on my brain MRI.  Doing an EEG soon.
