WHAT'S WRONG W/ ME

I am healthy active 67 yr old female and on 11/19/10 I took a Musinx DM xtrastrength 1200mg because I have had congestion for entire month and thought I was getting an ear infection.  Several hours after taking the pill I began experiencing a pressure or feeling of filling up with liquid in my head. Made me feel like a circulation in my head.I went to the ER.  All of my vitals were fine and the feeling passed so they released me thinking it was a reaction to the meds. 11/20/10 I felt fine all day and was active.  11/21/10 the same feeling began while I was in church did not get as severe so I did not go to the ER. 11/22/10 I had appt w/ my family doctor. He thought the episode was vasular and gave me a cortison shot.  At 3am 11/23/10 I had another episode so severe that I went back to the ER. They ran tests but all were negative so I was sent home.  11/23 and 11/24 I had similiar episodes but not severe enough to go to the ER.  11/25/10 another severe one and the feeling continued in my head and traveled to my chest.  I was finally admitted.  Spent 5 days in the hospital and they ran MRI/MRA, CT scan, stress test, ultra sound of my heart and couratic nerves, EKG, EEG and many blood tests.  All results are normal and show nothing.  I was released from the hospital on 11/29 but was back at the ER on 11/30 because I had another severe episode - I have a feeling of faintish but do not faint. nausea w/ no vomitting.  There is always a feeling of pressure and circulation in my head.

I was prescribed topamax but it has done nothing.  I have an appoint with a neuro but not until 12/17/10.

What is wrong with me?  Need answers

Well, the symptoms are returning now that I am done with the medication.  I cannot watch TV or the dizziness returns.  I still cannot read without dizziness.  I have had my eyes checked and they have not changed in 3 years.

I am calling my GP today to see if I can continue on the meds or if it is time to try something else.

does anyone have any ideas??? Help!!

I have been told that I have EBV but my GP did not test me for this.  I am on meds for this
and it has only been one day of meds and I don't feel any worse or any better.  I have my fingers crossed.

Do you think he should have tested for this?

Sorry you have posted so many times with no response, I had my e-mail set to alert me if there was any activity  on this thread but it didn't work. I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time, let's try to help you get to the bottom of it! I will do some research and post later, one more question, have you been diagnosed with or ever had a yeast infection? I'll talk to you in a bit, April

I have found another post and now I am questioning if I had a transient ischemic attack.  none of my tests showed any abnormalities and I had no other prior syptoms until 11/19/10. I am worried about the continual numbness in my leg.  both my GP and neuro have not acknowledged this as a concern.  But now I have back problems and the symptoms continue

Help!!

Thank you for comments on possibly what is wrong w/ me.  As I explained the neuro stated that all of my tests show no abnormalities.

I would describe the feeling in my ear as burning and ringing.

I did not sleep well last night. My back and tailbone are hurting and I cannot get comfortable.  I woke this morning feeling the same symptoms that put me in the hosptial.  I am feeling week, woozey, legs shakey, dizziness.

Any time I read the circular sensation begins in my head. I can focus but cannot continue to read.

I also have had a vertigo feeling when I took a ride in a vehicle on 12/5/10.

Any additional help is appreciated.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

Having throbbing in bilateral ears (much like a faint heartbeat) may be a condition called pulsatile tinnitus. Have you checked your heart rate and/or respiration rate to see if it corresponds with this throbbing sensation? Pulsatile tinnitus has several causes that may include a vascular abnormality such as from an arterio-venous shunt, an arterial bruit like from carotid stenosis, or it can be a mechanical problem such as a spasm of the muscles in your mouth or in your ear. It is good that you have had imaging of your head to evaluate for intracranial abnormalities. If not done, you may wish to have imaging of the vessels that supply the brain to ensure there are no irregularities.

Also, if your ear feels full like you are on an airplane, you may have a disorder of the eustachian tube itself. Common causes are allergies and colds. Other findings with this include dull hearing and possibly pain. It may occur when riding in elevators, going up a mountain in a car, etc.

Often these symptoms may reflect emotional/psychiatric problems related to stress (what is called somatization disorder). The latter is a true medical condition whereby instead of a patient experiencing depression or anxiety, they experience physical symptoms, and once the stress is addressed, the symptoms resolve.

It is good that you have had such an extensive workup. If your symptoms don’t resolve, you may wish to be evaluated by a specialist in ear, nose, throat.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.

Per the neuro my EEG was fine. He told me no one has a completely normal EEG.  He told me I have 3 choices: suck it up and live w/ this issues, tranquilizers or Cleveland Clinic.

I asked what the tranquilizers will do to me and he said it will make me dizzy and sleepy and I told I'm like that now and he told to forget what he said.

I am unsure what to do.  The circular sensation in my head has subsided but the numbness or feeling like me leg is asleep continues as well as the continual ringing in my ears.

HELP!!!

is is possible to have a long term nuerologically effects from the active ingrediates in mucinex DM extrastrength.  This is the pill I took 2 weeks and then began having all of these seizsure like symptoms.

Avoid guaifenesin capsules if you suffer from phenylketonuria (a condition in which you are unable to break down the amino acid phenylalanine), warns MedlinePlus. The guaifenesin granules may contain aspartame, which contains phenylalanine, and may potentiate such symptoms as tremors, skin rashes and seizures.

New symptoms -  had a sensation going thru my body and my legs started twitching.  Now my right leg feels like it is asleep.

Plus my ears have been ringing.  Thought it was a reaction from the Topamax.  But now I'm thinking it is another symptom.

Went to my GP yesterday - there was a slight abnormality in my EEG and he got my appointment w/ the neuro moved to today @ 2:30pm.

Anyone have any idea what is going on.

Hi Buck1, that must be kind of frightening for you. Can you answer a few questions for me?
-How many glasses (8oz) of clean, fresh water do you drink in a day?
-Do you eat dairy products?
-Do you eat wheat products?
-Have you ever taken probiotics?
-How many times a week do get some physical activity such as walking for a 1/2 hour?
-What % of your food intake in a day is fruits and vegetables?
-What supplements or vitamins, if any, do you take? If you take a D vitamin, is it D2 or D3?
-Have you been diagnosed with high blood pressure?
-Have you been prescribed a cholesterol medication?
-How many medications are you on? (if any)
-Do you have natural teeth or dentures that you chew your food with?
-Do you have at least one bowel movement a day?
-Is your congestion nasal only or upper airway as well?

You can send your answers to me via private message if you like. I hope I can help a little anyway! April
