increased seizures after gamma knife

i have had grand-mal seizures for 25+ years. my seizures have allways been controlled. i had a craniotomy in 06 to remove a 22mm craniopharyngioma. i found out in jan it had regrown and is aggresive growing 1mm in 3 months. i had 10gy gamma knife may 10th . i have had 4 seizures in a week and i havent missed any meds i take 2500mg keppra a day. i am keeping a metal taste and everything taste weired.i havent had any bloodwork done in 2/3years my levels was allways low/normal. my bloodpressure stays around 104/70 and i stay weak and tired and cant handle stress.i go for my follow up mri to see if the gamma worked in november if not i have to have another craniotomy. how effective is gamma on my type tumor? my tumor was the size of a pea in jan and by may it was size of a nickle and very close to my optic nerve. is the gamma knife the reason my seizures have gotten worse or the stress? shouldent i have my hormones checked and will the gamma knife effect my pituitary hormones? thanks for taking your time to answer my questions

i got a couple more questions i want your thoughts on. i was told by my neuro that my seizures could be from gamma or the craniotomy . i was also told that my pituitary hormones could cause the seizures. can low pit hormones cause my seizures to become uncontrolled ? my seizures have gotten worse and i sleep 4 hours after and i cant talk for a while after its just gibber. im having the stir off spells and i can see and hear but cant move and dont go out . the worst is the grand-mal ones. my bloodpressure was 100 / 66 and i was confused and weak and i had a very bad cluster migraine to . what could make my bloodpressure low? all my family has high bloodpressure and are on meds. thanks

thank you for taking your time to answer my questions. the information you gave was very helpfull. i will be going to my neuroligist monday . i have called my neurosurgeon about my seizures and gotten no answers and was told its to early for the gamma to cause them. my neurosurgeon dident have my hormones checked before the gamma knife because we decided to do gamma in 4 days. my hormones were allways low/normal and my endo told me i was just fat and needed to lose weight and untill my hormones were all low he wont help me. is that safe to wait till i am all low and need hormones ? i have called my neurosurgeon and asked to be refered to a different endo .im a 37yr old mother of 3 and its hard to enjoy time with my family and my kids have seen me passing out and having seizures. i have alot of lightheaded and dizzy spells and when i get sick my bp is low. i will take your advice and have my hormones checked thanks so much.

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

First of all, I highly recommend you discussing these concerns with your neurosurgeon and radiation oncologist. I will, however, try and give some information.

Gamma Knife surgery complications include hypothalamic dysfunction, endocrine changes, visual defects, radiation necrosis (usually which doesn’t come until later on). In your case, your seizures could be likely due to the damage to surrounding areas from the tumor itself.

You should get your hormones checked to make sure they are within normal, especially because of your complaints of weakness and your low blood pressure, which can definitely be related to low hormones.

Regarding the seizures: you need to let your neurosurgeon know about your seizures and would be wise to follow up with a neurologist, who can help you manage your seizures, because you may need another seizure medication added or your medication may need to be increased slightly.

Thank you for using the forum, I hope you find this information useful, good luck.
