My husband and I have been taking 800 IU of Vitamin E for many years in addition to other vitamins. We are both extremely healthy (ages 61 and 67).
With the current publicity about vitamin E not being safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex , we do not know what to do. Do we stop taking it totally or stay with the same amount due to our good health?
Vitamin E, has been touted as unhealthy because it is a blood thinnner. If you have problems with your heart, or you take asprin, coumadin, or other blood thinners, you should not take vitamin E. If you are not on any other blood thinners, then taking vitamin E is probably okay. This is something you really should speak with your doctor about just to be on the safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex side. You can also speak with your pharmacist about any drugs (even OTC) that you are taking to make sure there are not interacting with each other in a negative way. good luck
many times these "unsafe" doses of vitamins are determined from testing synthetic forms. Vitamin E is one of the most commonly synthesized vitamins in supplements.
If you are concerned, I would decrease your dosage to 400IU, but otherwise, just make sure you are taking a natural E supplement (d-alpha, not dl-alpha.)
800 IU is too much. Plus there are different brands of E and the controverseys are too much for me to go into. If you desire to take the supplement take the advice of cgagexii. Decrease to 400 IU.If you are taking codliver oil and omegaOmega-3 Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-500-3 fish supplements and eat reasonably I see no reason whatsoever for the vitamin E.
I wouldnt be worried, most say if you are under 1500iu its within the federal guidelines. I am on blood thinners and take a multi called clotamin that has about 30 iu of E in it and I have had no change in my inr levels or bleeding issues.
