low WBC

I have been having a problem with my WBC since two years. It is fluctuating from normal to low. During these two years, I noticed that my nutritional status was very poor as I passed through continueous traumatic issues that is why i did not pay any attention to my eating. as a result I lost around 8 kgs. The lowest level I got was 2,800 which made me concerned and worried and I went through many tests to make sure that I am alright. These tests were related to autoimmune tests and they were negative. I found that I have alpha thalassemia carrier. Last time I checked my WBC, and it was normal. I asked the doctor about the implications of my WBC and he told me that this is my body's nature and it is something normal to my body (which i did not understand). I would like to inquire if there is a relation between the stress and nutrition to my low WBC???????? By the way I have been on hormonal tablets for long time almost years and I stopped them only one year back and actually i can't recall the names as I am changing the tablet according to the result of my hormonal tests (I have irregular menses).

Continuous stress plays a major role in lowering our immune system (white blood cells are part of that system). Studies have showed a direct relationship between people having increased stress to increased illnesses or trigging of existing illnesses. Nutrition is important to keep the body healthy. When we do not eat properly and the body does not get the nutrients it needs then lack of food becomes a 'stress' to the body too. Hope that answered your question.
