Is this OCD?

I have never been officially diagnosed as having OCD but I think I do. As long as I can remember I have counted things. Most of the time I count the syllables in every thing people say. And if the final number isn't divisible by three it drives  me crazy and I have to repeat the words again in my head and change parts of it to make it equal to a number that is divisible by three. I also compulsively move certain muscles in my legs and feet in patterns. And I have to keep trying different patterns until I find the one that feels right for that day. I have tried over and over to stop doing these things and I can't. There are other things that I also do...like if someone uses the wrong grammar I have to correct them. I know this is an annoying habit...but I can't stop myself. If I don;t correct them, then it's all I can think about for hours.
Is this OCD? And if it is what can I do to make it better? I'm going crazy!!!!

I have this with food - cutting it into even pieces, chewing in even numbers and swallowing in evens... I have researched this before but no one has ever told me how to get rid of it. Is there a way that anyone here has tried that worked to get rid of counting in evens? I was always told that this is part of my eating disorder... I am almost 100% sure that it's not and I just want to get rid of it.

Please write what you know about how to stop the counting - not drug therapies... thanks!

Amanda,

It sounds like OCD to me.  I have OCD.  Definitely go find a local therapist who knows what OCD is, and explain it to them.  The most important thing, perhaps, for you to know right now is that you are not ALONE.  Many of us have the very same issues.  The worst part may be in thinking that no one else has this, that there is something terribly wrong with you, and that you are alone.  None of that is true.  And you can get relief.  And God loves you and knows you are suffering.  If you believe in Him, turn to him.

Yours,

Pat
