Recently diagnosed

Well I guess it's not that recent. I was in the hospital for a different psychiatric problem in February and the doctor diagnosed me with OCD, they didn't really explain it to me and I kind of brushed it off. I was recently in the hospital again and I was reminded that they believe I have this. The thing is I don't really know much about this, I mean I've seen the movies and the TV shows and heard people talking about it but I know there's more to it than that. What exactly is OCD? What happens when you have it and how is it treated?
I know that some people with it check things, count things, organize, need things to be a certain way, and things like that but I don't see a lot of this in me. I can't really pin point why the doctors think I have this, I mean I see some of it in me but it never really struck me as a huge problem until now. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

i wrote you a really big long response last night and then went to post it and medhelp decided to do upgrades at the same time so it was lost. by the time it was fixed i had forgotten almost everything i'd said...but yeah, i agree with the person above. the tv shows really do get it wrong. ocd is so much worse than what most people think. it really is hell sometimes...true hell.

Well having ocd means alot of things...with me I tend to fuss over germs and things and I think i having something i really dont...but i fully believe I have it and i have alot of just obbessive thoughts..Tv shows alot of the counting and germs but they actually have no clue how hard it is to have ocd...and it can be handled either with behavior therapy or pills...

Well I hope you figure out everything you need to know about it

Best of wishes
and good luck :)
