Root Canal and Facial Swelling

I had a root canal un my upper back tooth on Friday. I woke up Saturday with a facial droop, a kanka sore and swelling from my eye to my jaw bone. I knew I had an abscess when they started. My face hurts to the touch and the kanka hurts as well. I look like a chipmunk. I am on antibiotics. When can I expect the swelling to go down? When will it stop hurting? Does anyone know why this happened. It was a repair of an old root canal done 25 years ago. The surgeon said it was the worst job she has seen in her 23 years of practice. Is there something I should be doing to help with the swelling?

I went back to the Dr. today and they took an xray. They told me that the abcess and infection spread to the bone and they gave me a stronger antibiotic. The  swelling is starting to decrease and the drop is not as apparent. I think I will be fine in a few more days. Thank you for your response.

You should contact your doctor immediately and ask them what they would expect from your condition/treatment.   Each case is unique and has mulitple factors which influence the post-operative course.

This maybe normal, or this may represent something more serious.  It would be impossible to say without having seen you before and after as well as knowing the details of your procedure(s).
