My wrist fusion

Well my surgery was scheduled for tomorrow but I ended up having it Tuesday the 18th. my fingers are so swollen and purple. i can not lift my arm by itself and for some reason my elbow hurts bad.
They did nerve block in my arm pit but after surgery my upper arm was numb but lower arm i could feel pain. the night i got home i was bleeding through bandage so my husband called the  doctor and told him to change bandages. Yeah i called doctor about fingers they were not concerned i have been icing them off and on all day and no improvment. The enchrondoma is a tumor/cyst that grows in the bone he had to remove it or the fusion would not take. my incision goes from my knuckles to half way up my forearm i didnt think it would be so long. i will take pictures when they change the dressing tomorrow. I saw it the night of surgery cause we had to change bandages was not in mood to take pics then. i have felt so sick. i really hope this is last surgery ever.
i will know everything my doc did tomorrow as he told my husband after surgery but he forgot everything he said  ok im outta here for now ttyl

Hi..  Read thru your posts and wanted to see how you were doing now.  Hope all is well for you.  My husband had an injury that broke every bone in his wrist and some in the hand.  It's been 11 months and 3 surgeries later and next option is either fusion (Dr. recommends this) or Artificial Wrist Replacement.  Dr. does not recommend AWR because he said it was just for show.. vanity reasons..  would have no strength with it.  Well as of now, my husband has no strength in the wrist and can only move it downward.  No movement backwards and only a tiny fraction to the sides.  He has been in pain since day one of the injury.  He mainly wanted just to be painfree, but would love to have some of the motion back.  Did your doctor steer you towards fusion?  What were your injuries?  Thanks for any info.  Feel like I'm having to feel in the dark to find a needle of information.  Hope you are having better luck.  Vicky

I had my fusion done in May of this year. They did not take bone from my hip but a cadaver. I had the surgery and after I woke up from recovery I was sent home. I could walk and everything but my arm was in pain and even though medication helped, it only helped for as long as I could keep it down .

May I ask why you are having a wrist fusion? Arthritis, injury?????

I know every out come is different but mine was bad, I had a nasty fracture clister afterwards, I can not use my hand very much if at all and my arm is in constant pain and my bones hurt so much in my fingers, hand wrist and forearm, I am not trying to scare you just letting you know what happened to me.

It is almost five months since my wrist fusion and to be honest, I would give anything if I could go back and not have the fusion done. Can't use my hand for anything. Three doctos tell me artificial joint replacement and they don't do it and thery don't know anyone else who does either.

its 3 weeks post op and I still can not move my fingers all the way. Been going to doctors once a week. Now doc has sent me to physical therapy.Have only had one visit. Still in just a splint, no cast. My ulnar bone hurts from top to about an inch before elbow. I figured if anything hurt it would be where they put the screws in at but that actually feels fine.  When I try to straighten out my fingers it feels like bone is stopping them from going straight. When I try to make a fist it feels like so tight
I am just over hand problems. I hope all this is normal. I have had 4 surgeries on my hand and I cant take another one.

So it has been 9 days since surgery. I have some pain at night. I also have pain when i move my fingers, it runs down my arm to the elbow area. Doc says stitches out next wednesday. besides that everything seems to be ok. Formed a fracture blister  its ugly and hope it heals without the color.
i added an xray so you can click in my name to view it.
