Access to Risk Reduction Surgery

I'm at high risk for ovarian cancer - newly diagnosed with a BRCA1 gene mutation at age 65. An oophorectomy that will reduce my risk for developing ovarian cancer will cost over $25,000 - doctors here in North Florida tell me they do not know whether Medicare covers the surgery.  Anyone have experience of an older relative, friend, yourself with BRCA mutation who has had either oophorectomy or mastectomy to reduce cancer risk on Medicare?

You might try going to medicare.gov, the website for Medicare.  If you can't find an answer to your question there, you will certainly find out how to get an answer.  You might also try calling your local social security office to find out how to get your question answered.  I can't believe your doctors are too lazy to find out for you.
