From what I can understand about this  is that the cyst had a tumor inside of it, that was completely enclosed , like a sack around it, imagine an egg, broken with the yoke intact, the white part being the cyst and the yoke , the tumor. Iit may take several days for the bowel to be able to "pass gas"   because even during any surgery, when the bowel is handled, moved around, it does cause  the "normal" function to be slowed. She has evidently not been eating or drinking too much either, that slows down the formation of any gases. those darn adhesions cause more problems for any surgery, you really need to learn how to  keep them from forminjg.  I think there is a great health page on this.  Body rolling really works, not too soon, it takes about 4 to 6 months before any can form, the longer you wait the more advanced they "adhesions" get.

Thanks Jan for keeping us updated on how Teresa is doing. Yes I hope that Marty can explain because I am at a loss at understanding what exactly is going on. Thankfully she is feeling better even if it is slowly, at least she is heading in the right direction.
Take care Teresa and know that we are all thinking of you.

Just got off of the phone with her daughter and Teresa is not feeling great but better.  The tumor that they removed last week was the size of a bean and was encapsulated inside a cyst.  Maybe Marty can explain that to all of us because I don't understand.  I am curious about why he even worried about this tumor that was by his account there 2 years ago, but hadn't grown any?  She did have a bunch of adhesions and her intestines were all kinked up, so they removed the adhesions and straightened her out a little.  As for the all important question, no she has not passed gas yet. How can something that we all laughed about as kids (or adults) become so deathly serious.  I am going to try and call her tomorrow. Lilly says she is better between 2 and 4.  I will let you know what I find out.

PS  I am sorry everyone seems to be having a rough go of it.  I miss you all so much and hope that everyone gets to feeling better.

I have not been on the forum much at all this week.  I am sorry for not being able to keep up.  I have not been feeling very well, but have still had to take care of the baby.  Even though I haven't been posting I have been worrying over Teresa every day.  I have also been thinking of all of you currently on treatment and have been praying for good results for all.  I will check in when able. To complicate things I fell on my side walk yesterday and am sore all over.  I am thinking of all of you and will check in here and there until I feel better and can come back in more regularly.  Love,  Marie

If it was adhesions, that would account for not knowing if the blockage was fixed or not, getting rid of them either would unblock the bowell or not, will have to wait to see what passes.  A hematoma, that made no sense to me at all,  The original doctor would have in all probality taken out everything he could. Sounds to me like this is a good time to change doctors. Get rid of the one that is guessing and get some one that knows.  Leslee is changing  next Monday, sometimes I think a fresh look is the best, when a doctor get used to seeing you, maybe he/she is missing something, a new one hopefully will pick it up. Give my regards to Teresa.

Just talked to Teresa and I am as confused as she is.  She said they are not sure if the blockage is fixed or not.  I asked some questions, but she is so sick (throwing up) and still disoriented from the surgery and pain meds so she couldn't answer many and I didn't want to push her.  Dr's always seem to come see you when you are at your groggiest.  I don't know what to think.  How could they go in there, do surgery and not know the status of her condition?

Colleen, I don't know that her Dr is hiding anything, but I am VERY concerned.  The oncologist that her Dr is blaming for this was her Dr for only the surgery back in Oct of 2006.  That was almost two fricking years ago.  How can he be blaming her Dr from that long ago.  If he thought her surgeon left something in there why hasn't he said something before.  I think he screwed up big time and is trying to cover his butt.  Even if the original surgeon left something behind (and I seriously doubt that) she has been his patient for two years and should have said or done something earlier.  I didn't mention this before, but the original surgeon that her current dr is blaming has been  doing this for 30  years, & he is also my onc.  The world famous hospital that she is in sends their interns and residents to my onc to do their rotation in gynonc so what does that tell you?  We are going to try and go see her tomorrow or at least I will hopefully get a little more info.  I may call her son tonight and see if he was told anything by the surgeon.  I will let you know as soon as I know something.

I really hope that her doctor isn't hiding anything! From what you have written Jan, it certainly sounds like he could be incompetent. For Teresa's sake, I hope that is not the case. I will continue to keep her in my prayers and thank you Jan for posting. I hope you are feeling better from your chemo. Hugs, Colleen

So sorry all.  I meant to post this earlier. Yesterday Teresa sent me a text msg saying that she had another dietary setback.  I didn't know what that meant and when I called I got no answer. I was sick yesterday from chemo Tues and I didn't follow up on it. Teresa had to have surgery today at 12:30.  I called her room several hours ago and the nurse answered and said Teresa was sleeping, but was doing very well. The surgery was for the bowel blockage, which they didn't really believe she had I guess, because earlier today her sister said that Teresa had been telling them for a week it was a blockage.  The nurse the other night was listening to her tummy and said it sounded good on one end, but not on the other end. DUH!!!  She has a blockage so of course they aren't going to hear anything.

I just don't know what is going on & I am very confused about her illness and the surgery her current onc is doing.   She has been treated by this onc for the last two years, so I don't know how he can say that her original onc left something in that should have been removed.  If he didn't feel she had gotten the proper surgical care than, why didn't he do something about it earlier instead of waiting 2 years?  Also, from what I understand he has been telling her it was a hematoma all along and not a tumor.  Than all of a sudden he decides it is a tumor after he drains part of it and the fluid isn't the right color?  None of that makes any sense to me and I think he is hiding something.  Just don't know what.
to make of any of it.  I will try to find out more tomorrow.
