Doxil and exercise

Dr. I wrote to you before surgery, about my normal CA125 with recurrance.  I had surgery with optimal debulking - a second time, so I am very fortunate. One tumor was in the diaphram with a second on the liver and the diaphram.  I am to start doxil and carboplatin.  I exercise an 1 to 1/12 hrs a day, and during my first round of chemo I was in the gym 5 days a week.  I did not drop my counts, or develop any infections during the 6 cylcles.  My exercise includes  a low impact cardiac workout on a machine and circuit weghts.  Will I still be able to do this during treatment with doxil?   I have read about avoiding friction, and tight clothing.  Exercise is very important for my psychological well being, as well as weight control for me.  Can people continue normal exercise programs on this medication?

Dear rmarie:

I just read your post about exercise and Doxil.  I have been on Doxil since September 06.  I will be interested in what the Doctor tells you.  From my experience, please be very careful about walking on your feet a lot.  I had great difficulty with my feet, blisters swelling, bruising, etc.  I overdid it and worked outdoors on my feet, and I paid the price.  Please just be careful.

Best wishes,

plady

Dear Marie,
I am so glad that everything has worked out well. Doxil is a great drug. The main side effect is skin toxicity. It is important to not wear tight fitting clothes or clothes with any elastic bands that can mark your skin. You should continue with your exercise but you may need to rethink your wardrobe
take care
