Borderline Ovarian recurrence

Last August I had a laparotomy to remove a large (12cm) borderline mucinous tumor along with my left ovary and fallopian tube.  In the removal process, the tumor was inadvertenly cut open.  I started seeing a gyn/oncol at that time and she has been "watching" me with check ups every 3-4 months since.  A few months ago I started having extraordinary cramps.  When I mentioned this to my gyn/oncol she ordered an ultrasound.  On the ultrasound a 5cm mass showed up in the same area where the tumor/ovary/fallopian tube was removed.  This mass looked identical to the original mucinous tumor.  We waited 4 four weeks and had another ultrasound.  The mass is still there.  I am currently waiting for the radiologist to get the ultrasound report to my doctor.
My question is this:  Is it common for a tumor or cyst to grow where there isn't an ovary?  Is it possible that this is another borderline tumor growing and if so what would the likley treatments be?

I know I am asking to guess at a lot of this, but I am not finding much information on the internet about a recurrance once the ovary is gone.  I expect to hear from my doc by Tuesday, but I would like to have an idea about what I could possibly expect.   Thank you for listening and I appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Hi there,,

with your history and having a persistent mass, the next step is surgical removal. It could be a benign cyst or it could be a borderline tumor. Pam is right.Ovarian remnant syndrome is not rare. The treatment is surgical removal.
best wishes

I know you are waiting for a response from Dr Goodman, and I am certain that she will give you excellent advise.....I just had to reply.  I too have developed Ovarian Cysts...and have no ovaries.  There is something called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome....if just one ovarian cell is left behind at time of surgery, you can develop ovarian cysts, masses, etc.   There is not alot of info about ORS out there, but, if you do some "googling" you will find more info.

Best of luck to you.
