Does my Mum have Ovarian cancer?

hello there,
My mother had been suffering from what we knew as DVT( deep vain throbosis) for 4 yrs now and has been on treatment for this coumoden.
But her situatuon suddenly is getting worse and they have since discovered a abdominal mass in pelvis, some in liver and pelvis.
Now she has just done  a biopsy to determenine what kind of sarcoma it is.
She also had the CA125 done and result is 9.5 ul

This is some details of her result so far from to scans

- large right pelvic tumor on unclear etiology. Probably matastatic or possibly right ovarian primary. extended to right iliac bone and sacrum
cirrhotic liver with focak abomalities.
We are told we have to wait for the biopsy results to confirm
What are her options ? like surgery, chemo, e.t.c
What is the prognosis.
She is now using a stick to assist her walking, Due to pain in leg which we attributed to chronic dvt but have since been told might be due to tumor resting on pelvic affecting the leg.
Please advise on the best plans of actions to take, who we need to see, what other test do we need to ask for?

I am really scared and i have not told my mum much about her results so far.

Hi there,
if you are unsatisfied, you should get a second opinion.  If the second opinion agrees, you will be reassured.

If she has cancer in her liver, the would be a reason for chemo first.

So much of care is trust and good interactions with your health care providers.I sounds like your Mum has a devastating illness. You need to love  and trust her doctors.
lease keep  us posted as to how things are going

Thank you for your Kind Respose. She is currently at Belview Hospital. We got the reports from the Gyno oncologist that the Tumour may not be originating from her Ovaries but the Biopsy was inconclusive, So they now refered her to the clinical oncologist.
They are now planning to do yet another Biopsy on the liver area to hopefully give a clearer result of what kind of sacoma it is. I am really unsafisfied with their respose as i feel that by now they should be able to name what kind of sarcoma it is, stage and and give us a plan for treament. She is having s much pain in her right leg and using walkig stick to assist her balance and walking.
Should we refer her to another hospital as the ones you memtioned above.
As i think by now surgery should be an option offered to at least ease the symptoms especially to the leg.
I also agree with you that surgery is the primary care to remove as much of the tumor as possible.
We were told that this is not an option as they would look at Chemo or and radiotherapy.
do we wait for 2nd Biopsy to determine what kind of Cancer it might be or refer her for a 2nd option.
I look forward to your reply.
many Thanks

Hi There,

How very scary for you and your mother. Those reports are very worrisome for a malignant growth.
If your mother is in good physical shape, the standard of care is a primary surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

I see that you live in New York. It is crucial that you make sure your mother sees a gynecologic oncologist. This issue should not be managed at a community hospital. There are many excellent cancer centers in New York such as Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai, NYU, and others.

If your mother has other health risk, once a diagnosis of cancer is made, she will be offered 2-3 courses of chemotherapy followed by surgery.

DVTs are associated with malignancy.

please let us know how she is doing
take care
