Dr. Goodman I'm back unfortunately with another ?

So the WAR treatment has been done for about 3 or 4  months now. My wife just had a check up which showed that her CA 125 was up again and her liver function was down. If you were looking at her report what would your thoughts be? I don't worry easily but I'm starting to now.

Thanks
Dave VG

you can come back and ask as many questions as you need (as long as you know it can take me awhile to answer due to the demands of my day job :) )

Hi Dave
you can come back and ask as many questions as you need (as long as you know it can take me awhile to answer due to the demands of my day job :) )

elevation in CA 125 in the absence of other findings is a tough one.We struggle with what to do with that all the time.  The current thinking is that in the setting of a normal scan, watchful waiting is appropriate. Even if ultimately, a cancer recurs, the current data suggests that there is no change in response to chemo and to survival to wait until active tumor is seen on a scan.

However, I think for the person living with this diagnosis, any change in their labs is horrifying and frightening.

There are many situations where CA 125 can be elevated - in the setting of radiation, radiation enteritis could do it.

SO I would suggest a repeat scan , exam, labs.In the absence of other findings, close follow up.

best wishes
