IUD and ovarian cancer

My Mom died of ovarian cancer in 1995 when she was 54-years-old. About 15 - 20 years before that, Mom had an IUD put in. She said that she had later been warned by the doctors that the particular brand of IUD she used should be removed because it was potentially carcinogenic. She opted to keep it in because the risk of pregnancy was worse for her than the risk of cancer. (Note that I overheard this conversation that Mom was having with one of our female relatives during a family gathering.) So, does any of this sound like it could have caused Mom's ovarian cancer? Is it worth me tracking down Mom's medical records to find this IUD's exact brand name and duration of use? I appreciate your help. Liz

I have had an IUD fitted about 5 months ago. I am experiencing long periods of heavy bleeding, and a lot of discomfort and pain. Should i have the IUD removed. I also have a family history of Cervical cancer.

Sincerely
B Mournian.

Dear Liz,
IUDs have not been implicated in the development of ovarian cancer.
