Ultrasound report showed ovarian cyst

Just received my ulstrasound report from yesterday:

The right ovary contains 1.9x2.3x1.8 cm cystic structure with septations. A hemorrhagic follicle or corpus luteum is favored.
Minimal simple free fluid is seen in the cul-de-sac which may be physiologic.

Diagnosis: Probabe complex follicular cyst or corpus luteum in the right ovary.

I am confused - I thought that follicular cysts are always simple. Also is the fact that I have some minimal fluid present indicative of potential much more significant problems?

I missed my period back in March due to extreme stress. Could the cyst be developed due to missed period?

Thank you very much for your answers!

wow- what a hard road you have been on!   It sounds like your doctor has been very attentive to you. By now, you have the reports back from your pelvic ultrasound. Hopefully, that will help sort out your issues.
Unrelated to gyn - I would suggest that you ask your primary care about 3 different types of medical conditions that can give you the symptoms you describe:

-tropical sprue which is a wheat gluten allergy. You can have devastating weight loss from it. diagnosis is made by endoscopy and biopsy. It is treated by a gluten free diet
-HIV infection  check an HIV blood test
-a blood disorder such as a pre-leukemia condition - looking at the CBC (complete blood count) is the first step in this evaluation

to foreign girl - functional cysts come and go with menstrual cycles. They look complex and can have septations

best wishes

take care

I am a 37 y.o female that had gallbladder surgery in May 2008-The gallbladder was NOT the source of the problem I have since found out.  To make a very long story short, I have had 8 hospitalizations in 15 months with seemingly unrelated symptons from chest pain, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, weakness, abdominal bloating, pain in right side and just generally a feeling of decline of daily activity, now I have been told that I have severe anemia and need iron transfusions IV for 4 weeks-this is new as of June 2009.  Did I mention that I have NO appetite, difficulty eating and have lost 104 pounds since May 2008?  I have had a complete GI workup done-including a Colonoscopy, EGD, CT of abdomen (not pelvis).  I went to my GYN the last week and when he did his bimanual exam, he touched something in my right side that sent pain waves that I can only say was worse than natural childbirth through my abdomen and into my chest.  He sent me for an immediate Transvag. ultrasound, Pelvic Ultrasound, Mammogram, CBC, and CA 125, along with a PAP smear.  I have 7 days to wait to hear about the results-that is a long time when this question is on my mind. Could this be Ovarian Cancer or could something else be causing this? Thank you for your time.

Thank you very much for your answer. All the information on internet that I read said that only simple cysts can be functional cysts. Is functional cyst different from a cyst of ovulation? Since my has thin septations it's not functional, correct?

Thank you again!

Hi There sounds like a normal cyst of ovulation. They are always complex.

The standard would be to check an ultrasound again in three months.
I hope your stress  lightens
