Mom's Options

Actually, my mom (84) has Uterine cancer...she had a hysterectomy on Dec 20.  It was Stage IIIc and Grade 1. A cancerous lymph node was removed from the groin area and from near the aeorta.  Washings from the pelvic area showed cancerous cells.  The gyn/onc recommends radiation, possibly followed by chemo (same chemo as is used for Ovarian Cancer).  First radiologist said full abdominal rad would be too hard on her (she is in good health, but 84 is 84).  the Onc recommends getting a second opinion....so for those of you who have had either radiation or chemo...I'd really appreciate some input on how tough the regimen is.  He told her she would probably die from the cancer in five years without the follow-up, but she isn't sure she wants to deal with all of the side effects since she could well die in that timeframe anyway...At this point, quality of life is a big issue.  Thank you.

I am alot younger than her (35yrs). I was 32 when I had uterine cancer, so I dont know how much help I would be, I had severe complications from the hysterectomy and was in the hospital, so I did not do radiation until I re occured with ovca. I had one episode of radiation enteritis, but that was really all. Given the age difference, I dont know if my situation would be really relevant to her. It really depends on how she feels about all of this, and what her oncologist says. She is in my thoughts and prayers, as are you.
