Debulking surgery- Friday shes 74, should I be concerned

My mom is having her OVCA debulking surgury at moffit this Friday. What should I expect she is 74 years old and has been having alot of problems with ascites. Adenocarcinoma Glandular cancer is the diagnosis stage III, maybe IV. Im so worried about her because of her age. Should I be this concerned?

I spent the night before my original debulking surgery writing good-bye letters.  I saw the mess inside me and did not believe they could take it all out and keep me in one piece.  What a surprise when I woke up feeling better than I had felt in years!  The weight of the heavy tumors was gone and although I was somewhat sore I really felt fine.  Nurses said I woke up from the anethesia talking and joined their conversation!!  A few weeks later I was walking the kids to the park to see fireworks.  I was not as old as your mom, but I was in pretty poor shape before the surgery.  The cancer had been in my body a long time.  I was severely anemic and dehydrated.  The anemia was gone post-op. (until this recurrence)  I think you will be surprised how well she pulls through this.  She is lucky to have you.  I will be thinking of you both.  Marie

I agree with Jane.  The doctors wouldn't do surgery if they didn't think your mom could withstand it.  They will only do surgery if they think it will help her.  They must think that the benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks.  She is in good hands, Moffit is a fine cancer center.  Take care.

Hi Lillian,
Of course you're concerned, she's your Mom and you love her and you're frightened.
She's always been there for you when you needed her, now it's your turn to do the same for her. I can see what a loving daughter you are, and she's so blessed to have you.

Her surgeon is aware of her health issues and he feels confident that he can perform a successful surgery, he wouldn't proceed if he didn't feel comfortable.

I'll say a prayer for her successful surgery, a fast recovery, and her good health.

Take care of yourself, and have faith in her medical team.
Jane
