Thank you very much. So, there is no other meds I can take to keep the cancer away? Letrozole? Vaccine trial?
I am pleased to be able to be on the trial even if I got the placebo. I think it's the only way we will advance in beating this cancer.
Hi Lucymullis,
Here is the summary of GOG 218:
GOG 218-Phase III Trial of Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Placebo vs. Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Concurrent Bevacizumab Followed by Placebo, vs. Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Concurrent and Extended Bevacizumab, in Women with Newly Diagnosed, Previously Untreated, Suboptimal advanced Stage Epithelial Ovarian and Primary Peritoneal Cancer
So that means you are on one of the three possible schedules of treatment. One of these schedules includes extended treatment with avastin (bevacizumab). I suspect that you are not allowed to start other chemo while you are on this study.
the reason for doing this study is because we do not know whether avastin improves survival over carbo taxol alone. We also do not know whether continuing on avastin after carbo and taxol will improve survival.
There has been only one study that suggested that a year of taxol every three weeks after completion of primary chemo improved survival. most oncologists do not believe it.
I would suggest that you continue with careful checkups.
Your daughter should consider the prophylactic remove of her ovaries and fallopian tubes after she has completed her family.
best wishes
